Over the years, there have been a number of survival films - many of which have been a.) very good and b.) successful. Which is your favourite?

Cast Away, Gravity, Martian and Life of Pi are my favorites among the ones you listed.
I will go with Gravity.

I haven’t seen Martian or Life of Pi but agree on Castaway and Gravity. They’d be in my top 4 along with Into the Wild and Revenant.

Damn that's a tough list.
I'd probably lean Castaway at the top. 127 Hours probably being a close 2nd. The Martian, Gravity, Into the Wild, I Am Legend are all up there. And The Grey was pretty dope.

I think you'll love The Martian a lot, you should watch it whenever you get chance. While I think you might enjoy Life of Pi don't think it will make your top 4 list.

Out of those I'd go
Cast Away Life of Pi The Martian
with Gravity, The Revenant and 127 Hours right outside.

That’s quite a list! Some great films on there. I went with:
Gravity Life of Pi All is Lost (I’m thinking not many have seen this, it’s Robert Redford in a boat. Quite simple but for me very engaging and powerful)
Close behind would be The Revenant, Into the Wild, maybe 127 Hours. Was never crazy about Castaway.

I watched All is Lost its great for sure and definitely underrated. As much as I loved Redford in it there are some scenarios that didn't click with me.

Gravity and Cast Away are the best survival films on this list, but The Edge deserves way more recognition than it has gotten IMO. Such an underrated flick and I actually prefer it over The Revanant to be honest.
