Re: BATTLE of the SIMILAR FILMS 3 - Volcanoes of 1997 None of these two are great but I prefer Volcano more because even if cringy it has a whole lot of tension in it. Dante's Peak builds and builds with not too much payoff in the end.

Male Lead- Volcano (Tommy Lee and his team were more believable)
Female Lead- Volcano (At least Anne Heche had a job and was useful)
Location- Volcano (LA city and residents more interesting)
Deaths- Volcano (Lava Kills!)

I voted for Dante’s Peak because it felt a little more intimate and real, and I think it came first making Volcano seem slightly redundant. Stand out scene in Volcano for me was when the guy jumped or fell off the subway car into the lava and slowly burned/melted alive. yikes!
