Post subject:  Actor/Actress of the decade?
Watching JUMANJI made me realize The Rock clearly is the actor of the decade and no one comes close to him.

On the female side idk? JLaw had this under her wing but she kinda bombed after being everywhere. I'd say SarJo is the artist of the decade?

Though there are strong arguments for Leo, Cooper, Damon. You could not get people to watch the Rock on Mars for 2+ hours. And yeah, Jennifer Lawrence, kind of no one else in the conversation.

This is a complicated question because of the incredible rise in IP popularity this decade.

-Robert Downey Jr/Tony Stark is no question the biggest actor/character of the decade. Tough to say how well they would do separated but this is really not a question. The Rock wins based on sheer saturation while Leo wins based on personal draw an actor himself.

I ultimately think Leo has to be named the most impactful "star" because if he ever attached himself to a popular IP, it would feel much bigger than The Rock doing the same (which he already has several of).

-Actress is very tough. Jennier Lawrence herself just isn't a draw and IMO was never a draw herself. The media hyped her intensely for a brief period but there's really no evidence she could carry anything herself, with many of her films in the 2nd half of the decade being an outright flop. Her big hits were due to preexisting IP or huge ensemble casts.

There really were no dominant actresses of the decade. Angelina Jolie isn't very popular and her fame died when she dumped Brad Pitt.

Margot Robbie and Emma Stone strike me as the 2 dominant figures heading into the 2020s so I guess I would go with them.

-Biggest riser would have to be Chris Pratt

-No single film character of the 2010's managed to top Ledger's Joker in terms of pop culture popularity

WTF? Name a movie the Rock has starred in that has nothing to do with another franchise that made over 100 million outside of San Andreas? Also name one that names him as more than a presence.

That's 1 film in 10 years.

Cooper has American Sniper and a Star is Born, 2 Hangover films, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, 4 Marvel Films, The Mule
Damon has the Martian, Contagian, Intersteller, FVF, Jason Bourne, Elysium, Contagion, We Bought a Zoo, etc.
Leo, has not had a misfire in 7 years, and even J Edgar was a hit.

PS I love the fucking The Rock, Jumanji 2 is his best role since Be Cool.

The Rock's ridiculous pop culture saturation does not necessarily translate to equal popularity.

He will make Black Adam bigger than it ever would have been otherwise, though, which to me is the ultimate sign. Leo is the one who obviously has the same affect though to a greater extent IMO

I'm not saying the Rock's newform business skills is an asset. But its not like you couldn't have added any of the other 10+ actors passed that turned down the role before him to get there. He still really hasn't had a film on him that's been a hit.

RDJ was in prison and a well known drug addict that made 70+ million this year. He pretty much shaped mainstream moviegoing this past decade even if it started in 08 (I'll say 05 though)

And Leo come on!

He made Raccoons cool. He's come a long way since being known as the dickhead from Wedding Crashers.

Going with DiCaprio both because he had acclaimed roles/classic films and a lot of his films were hits as well with Inception, Django, Gatsby, Wolf, Revenant, and Hollywood all doing well. The Rock had some hits but none of them with him in the lead are really classics even by blockbuster standards. Fast and Furious is but it’s not his franchise. He is the modern Arnold but has less memorable films, in part cause action is not as popular.

I’m going to pick Scarlett for actresses if you assume 1-2 acting nominations and picture nominations for Marriage Story/JoJo which she really needed to complete her resume. I would have gone JLaw or Emma before this year but she made up a lot of ground in 2019 on multiple levels. ScarJo has 6 massive Marvel films and a very impressive lead blockbuster opening in Lucy, indie street cred with stuff like Under the Skin and Her, and now will be adding in a Best Actress nominated role and possible win

You do realize The Rock has been in the top 3 grossing stars every year since 2014 outside 2016. And he’s been the back to back champ the last two.

Cooper has never cracked the top 3 in that same span. Stop talking.

That has nothing to do with being the best actor of the decade.

Cooper has been #1 3 of the last 10 years with Guardians, Endgame, and Infinity War. He's as important to that franchise as the Rock is to FAF. Get real. American Sniper and Guardians were #1 and #2 domestic of 2014. He's starred in the biggest R rated comedy and comedy sequel of all time. He's been nominated for 7 Academy Awards, Tony Award, and won a Grammy Award. Most likely 8 as he produced Joker.

I agree Cooper's role in MCU has been negligible at best, that role cannot be compared to Rock's F&F role at all.

I'd go with DiCaprio and Cooper over The Rock for quality any day.

Though sadly its not the case box office wise. I think The Rock is more integral to the success of F&F compared to Cooper and Marvel.

Ok, are we really comparing Cooper and The Rock? I'll give you Leo but not Cooper. I just can't and won't.

Vince Diesel owes The Rock the last 3 F&F movies and its spin off. Cooper got lucky to b casted in GoTG. Sorry but you can't compare his role as rocket to Gibbs.
