Post Benioff & Weiss Depart Star Wars Trilogy - What next for SW?
Quote:
It seems as though the curse of Star Wars continues as another set of creatives have bailed from the Lucasfilm franchise. According to Deadline, Game of Thrones show creators and Emmy winners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have departed their planned trilogy of Star Wars films earmarked for release in 2022, 2024 and 2026. The pair are pinning the blame on their recent 5-year deal to produce television for Netflix (rumored to be worth in the neighborhood of $300 million) for not allowing them enough time to make their Star Wars movies, speculated to take place during the Old Republic era.

Possibly a good thing after Season 8 of GOT.

So who would you like to see take over this trilogy (set for 2022,24,26)? I'm sure Disney wont give up the slots

What stories or time periods should they focus on?

They should quit making Star Wars movies.

Pretty much. Finish your new trilogy and give the franchise a little air. It's fine to not have a Star Wars movie planned for two or three years. Forcing all these new stories is going to choke the franchise. Keep going with TV for now.

Is the "pinning the blame on their $300 million Netflix deal" an editorial opinion? I really doubt they're going around saying "Damn that nine figure deal, if not for that, we'd have so much more time for Star Wars".

Yeah I think people would be more than fine with The Mandalorian for a few years, and then maybe venture off with new movie characters.

D&D got caught looking ahead and a project suffered for it? Never would have seen that coming!

Disney wants SW to be their other MCU and that's not going to work out because they started with reverse in this franchise where the biggest movie came at the very start.

To recap:

JJ Abrams
Garth Evans
Rian Johnson
Ron Howard

vs

Josh Trank
Phil Lord
Christopher Miller
Colin Trevorrow
Rian Johnson (though maybe he will get his trilogy back now that D&D are out)
David Benioff
DB Weiss

More people have lost their Star Wars movies than made them. :funny:

That's an interesting breakdown. Even Gareth Evans had major edits done to Rogue One.

Not a good look for Kathleen Kennedy and her decision making, despite an illustrious career.
