 Re: Favorite movie of 2011?
This one's a struggle. I think this was the weakest year for movies this decade. There were a number of movies I found to be pretty great, or at least enjoyable, but not a lot that I would consider excellent. Hmmm......
Best for me:
Bridesmaids, X-Men: First Class, Warrior, Source Code, The Skin I Live In
Also solid:
We Bought A Zoo, Crazy Stupid Love, Rango, Contagion, Rise of the Planet of the Apes
I appreciated some of the low-budget sci-fi from the year but wasn't blown away:
Take Shelter, Another Earth, Attack the Block
but which one is my favorite?? eh.....
notable: was not fond of many of the supposed "Best" of the year: Drive, Tree of Life, Hugo. Never saw The Artist, The Descendants, The Help, War Horse, Moneyball.....
I really need to watch Melancholia. I think I'd appreciate it.

The Descendants and Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol are awesome. Just unlucky they came out in the same year as the Refn masterpiece, Drive.

Drive Bridesmaids Thor
I’ve always thought of this as down year. The list of films is really solid in retrospect though. A very nice balance of genres.

"Other" again, since my highest rated ones are Melancholia and A torinói ló (The Turin Horse). From the poll options, it's The Tree of Life, followed by Drive. Others that are ahead of Drive: Le Havre and Le gamin au vélo (The Kid With a Bike). Also, this thread reminds me I should finally watch Midnight in Paris; it's one of the few Woody movies I've skipped for mysterious reasons.

Other - We Need To Talk About Kevin
I like Crazy, Stupid, Love as well, and I stand by Horrible Bosses being funnier than the wildly overrated Bridesmaids. I also think the first Captain America is the best MCU film.

Honestly, not a great year. But a really solid year. A lot of really good films, but nothing that really jumps out to me.

Bridesmaids was fucking HYSTERICAL and not overrated in the slightest. Can't believe we didn't get a sequel

Yeah lol half the cast was reunited and they did a sequel it probably wouldn't be as good. I'm kinda shocked that Kristen Wiig didn't blow up after and went the indie route. Melissa McCarthy is amazing and a true scene stealer but everyone was raving and saying Wiig would explode

No idea everyone was so apathetic toward HPDH1+2. Not even Algren calling them shit. Are they forgettable or something?

 Re: Favorite movie of 2011?
It was a low key non-showy year but there were still some gems.
My faves:
Hugo Drive Senna Shame The Descendants Thor Limitless
One word titles ruled.

 Re: Favorite movie of 2011?
Fuck, I forgot so many. It was a great, great year. One of the best. Midnight in Paris, The Mechanic, The Descendants, Ghost Protocol, and Drive. Five of the best films of the last decade.
There were also tons of other smaller and/or great films, such as Trust, City of Life and Death, Machine Gun Preacher, The Trip, The Skin I Live In, Shame, The Guard, The Lincoln Lawyer, Insidious, Hall Pass, The Ides of March, and Hanna.

1. Fast Five 2. Drive 3. Warrior 4. The Lincoln Lawyer 5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 6. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) 7. Horrible Bosses 8. Rise of the Planet of the Apes 9. Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol 10. Bridesmaids 11. Super 8 12. X-Men: First Class 13. Captain America: The First Avenger 14. Thor 15. The Ides of March
Looking back at some of these 2010 might have been somewhat of a stronger year overall IMO. Outside of the top 5 or 6 films I don't consider the rest being great movies, although I did enjoy them.

The Descendants, Rango, Restless, and The Tree of Life would be among the chief runners-up.
