The $153m opening means little (the MCU has built up so much capital anything will open big). Let's wait until the 2nd weekend.

Moving the goal post, eh?

2nd weekend always depends on the WoM whereas OW is more reflective of these distractions. Unless this drops more than 70% or more I don't see how this incident would have impacted this.

Well, of course. Goal posts need to move, otherwise we'd still be judging box office by 1929 standards.

Agreed. Especially true when these distractions have existed for some time before the film opened.

That's a silly way to muddy the waters. You can do better, Algren. :)

It's true. Standards need to be revised. A $153m opening in 2019 is NOT the same as a $153m opening in 2008. As I already said, goal posts need to move. Benchmarks change. Nobody said CM's opening was bad, but in terms of its performance as the latest in the MCU, we need to wait to see just how impressed we can be of it.

Oh, and drop the condescending manner, i.hope. There's nobody else here to put on a show for.

I suppose you did not read lilmac's post that you quoted.

Captain Marvel did better than most recent MCU solo movies (Thor3, GotG2, AM&tW, DS) not called Black Panther.

Of course I read it. And you're kidding yourself if you think the movies that CM should be compared to are three sequels and Doctor Strange.

Then what should it be compared to, Mr. Contrarian? :shades:

For me, her comments I just ignored. The same with Sam Jackson's mental illness. Plus, I'm so invested in watching this series I just can't skip a film because of their SJWness or politics. In the end though the film was excellent and a great addition to the series and it's overall lore.
