Bill Condon broke out on the director scene with his memorable 1998 'Gods and Monsters', then followed this up by writing the screenplay for 2002's 'Chicago', then writing and directing the excellent 2004 'Kinsey', quickly followed by the five-time Oscar nominated 2006 'Dreamgirls'.

However, he then spiralled into a couple of 'Twilight' sequels, finally nosediving into this year's live action 'Beauty and the Beast' remake.

Just five weeks ago, he had to postpone work on the ill-fated Bride of Frankenstein remake.

You conveniently left out The Fifth Estate and Mr. Holmes, both of which were praised and had awards chatter. And he has written the upcoming The Greatest Showman. So he is obviously trying to get it back after those two DIRE Twilight sequels.

I was purposely trying to forget his contribution to 'The Greatest Showman' exactly because of his career trajectory. It can only be a curse upon an otherwise promising Hugh Jackman extravaganza! (Ditto trying to forget the snooze-worthy 'Mr. Holmes'.)

I do not hold Condon in high regard. Kinsey was good, but the rest of his filmography is just lame.

Guy made a 500+ million film this year and your worried about his trajectory. How about you go outside and give a guy with a cup in his hand a couple of dollars.

He sold out, who cares? Give him a Marvel or SW movie, seems like a good trajectory for him. People always forget 9/10 directors make small films, because they can't make big films, but all they ever dream about is making big films. But they use the small ones as a resume basically.

This thread is posted in the Cinemania forum, not the Box Office Bash forum.

I really loved Dreamgirls but I believe that is the movie that got him Twilight which while decent takes away a lot from his credibility.

I don't think BatB was a misstep in his career but as a director whose previous movies had emotional heft this was not a great blockbuster choice for him.

The Twilight finales were missteps. Beauty and the Beast was a fall.

1.1 billion in domestic grosses this decade...gets a WWW thread.

I get that you're talking quality-wise, but was the quality really there to begin with?

Next up for Bill Condon: a Bride of Frankenstein reboot with a screenplay by the director of Divergent (Condon can't seem to stay away from the lame YA biz) - and this is only if the Dark Universe franchise hasn't already imploded after the Mummy bomb.

Yes, you posted that in the OP but there haven't been any updates on that since October, correct? It appears it may not happen at all.
