Post Re: Edit: Hollywood Sexual Harassment Allegations
I think there is no need to vilify anybody for what happened thirty or more years ago. It would be like calling the police on someone that said "nigger" in 1957. Different era. These things happen. You can't police against every little thing. A slap on the ass in 1975 is nothing. Literally nothing. Let alone "assault". People just want their 15 minutes of fame among this new trend of outing people. Actually, stories like this downgrade the real cases of assault.

Post Re: Edit: Hollywood Sexual Harassment Allegations
Quote:
He was meeting a lot of actors during that period, enjoying the time-honored custom of late-night, post-show gatherings at which many different Broadway casts would eat and mingle. Rapp had relocated from Joliet, Illinois, with his mother Mary for the run of the play; he'd even taken the semester off from school. Sometimes his mother would accompany him to those events, but sometimes she'd let him go alone.

Rapp said he encountered Spacey again at one of those post-show functions, when a 17-year-old friend from Joliet was visiting him in New York. "And he was like, 'Hey! Hi! Come join us!'" Rapp said. Spacey then invited both boys to join him at the popular nightclub Limelight, even though, as Rapp explained, “I looked younger than 14.”

"I don't know how— We got in through the front door," Rapp continued. "We didn't have to show ID. And we sat with him in some VIP area." Rapp noted that he had no memory of being offered alcohol — "It was just a fun night just talking and hanging out," he said — and at some point, Spacey invited him to attend a party he was hosting a few days later at his Manhattan apartment.

He went, gladly, and alone. Rapp said he honestly cannot recall what he told his mother — who died from cancer in 1997 — about the party, but he stressed that the idea of him attending a party held by an adult Broadway actor did not seem like a cause for concern. "I imagine that I might be opening my poor late mother up to some criticisms for how she parented, but, you know, it was a different era," he said. "I went to work by myself. I would walk to the subway, and go to the theater by myself.”

When he arrived at Spacey's apartment, Rapp quickly realized that he was the only nonadult there — which, again, did not worry him, since he so often had found himself in similar situations as a child actor. The bigger issue: "I didn't know anyone," he said. "And I was quickly kind of bored."

Rapp said he ended up wandering into the bedroom, sitting on the edge of the bed, and watching TV well past midnight.

At some point, Rapp said he turned to see Spacey standing at the bedroom door. And that's when he first realized that everyone else had left the party. They were alone.

I wonder what he was imagining would happen when he waited in the bedroom until all the other guests left? Was he expecting a drive home? In NYC, why wouldn't he just take a taxi home when he first became bored?

Anyway, I have no idea who is advising Spacey but between Sunday’s WTF-are-you-thinking statement and this, I have no idea what they’re thinking. It’s like they’re purposely trying to make him look guilty.

This seems relevant:

And a personal note: I've never laughed so hard at Bill Maher before.

Of course he was not legally responsible, but what do you think he was imagining would happen when he waited in the bedroom until all the other guests left?

Well, he says that's not the case, but we'll never really know. It's irrelevant because Spacey was a grown ass adult and everything he's said and done since Sunday looks really fucking bad in terms of his innocence.

Saying "Oh it happened so long ago, let it go" is the peak argument from someone who doesn't understand the effects of any kind of abusive behavior. It assumes that this was commonplace decades ago and that lots of people were doing it, and it also assumes the accused are guilty of one indiscretion, when it's pretty clear this was an ongoing issue for a lot of people. Weinstein, Spacey, Toback, Cosby. These guys have multiple accusations.

It starts with one person coming forward, and if that can help someone else to come forward and put an end to this behavior, let it all fucking come out. You want to be an asshole in life and doing things to people you perceive are weaker than you, then I'm fucking glad you're paying for it now.

So far, Dustin Hoffman seems to only have the one accusation, which I feel like was an infatuation, gross as it was (she being 17), that he tried to pursue, but unfortunately didn't realize or believe that this woman was not interested in him.

Ratner suing one of his accusers. Something tells me that he doesn’t really want this to go into discovery though.

I meant next year, as in for films released in 2018. And it was tongue in cheek. No way he would get nominated at this coming awards, even if they pushed for it.

So, is Jeremy Piven the next one to fall?

I know, I just remembered that comment when I saw the story and thought it was funny. But in general I agree that unless some really bad stuff surfaces he’ll be able to rebound eventually (say 5+ years)

Actors are lucky in the sense that they have character and goodwill to fall back on. A portion of people will just not believe any allegation or care about it if it's for an actor they like. And being good looking helps too. Harvey Weinstein had neither, so everyone wants him dead. But if you have the same allegations against, say, Harrison Ford, things wouldn't be nearly as bad. And it also depends on how well liked you are in general. Can you imagine if someone said Morgan Freeman was a sexual predator. Nobody's going to care.

But it is also quite interesting that the allegations are all against ugly, often fat men. Harvey Weinstein, Brett Ratner, Kevin Spacey, Dustin Hoffman, and now Jeremy Piven who is the best looking out of all of them which is why I do not believe his career will be as affected (unless more people come out). Like, I can't imagine there being any allegations against Brad Pitt in the near future, whether he groped or talked about sex around women or not.

All the Money in the World can't buy an Oscar nomination, but when Shakespeare is in Love it is a different story. Sorry, that would be the best cheesy headline ever.

Ok fuck it - this article really infuriated me and Kevin Spacey is a sack of shit if it’s true.

And CAA and his publicist just dropped him.

He’s fucked. MRC admitted that there were prior complaints about his on-set behavior on House of Cards too (they only informed Netflix today) and crew members have been telling tales of groping, etc. Zero chance Frank Underwood appears on television again, if HOC continues they’ll probably just say he died between seasons.

And wait until the Bryan Singer pool party bros start coming forward.

I still like Spacey for the work he's done. Great actor. But I wonder if this will impact the gay community in some way. I mean, there is a longstanding fear from heterosexuals that gays will try to rape them, and Spacey is lending truth to that. :funny:

I wonder if Paz de la Huerta will get much sympathy from the public. I mean, she is basically a porn star for hire in non-porn films. I don't believe Harvey would even need to rape her. Her legs are never closed.

lol, Feldman names John Grissom as one of his abusers ... the guy was already arrested in 2001! Feldman is such a fucking phony. He's just after the money. But he had to give one name to suppress the skeptics. And then he gives the name of a guy that nobody would even care to make a big story of anyway!!

Spacey is an example of the Hollywood coverup bs. The damn crew and the production company knew of his behavior and did squat. I would assume even Robin Wright knew of it. What becomes of her career in the future if she gets thrown into the "I knew but did nothing" camp. This ultra cabal of sitting on the sidelines letting stuff go on just because it's unbelievable. Now, I can still appreciate Spacey's work in the past. He really is a good actor obviously but his career is toasty toast.

Who next? Who else on the pinwheel of shame? Terry Crews and Van Der Beek should open up.

No effect at all because she's a woman and she will always claim that if she spoke up her career would have suffered.
