For the most part, I don't think the negativity is directed towards normal guys who are functioning members of society. It's targeted at rapists, gropers, harassers, etc.

Yeah, Cruise was dogged by gay rumors and whatever weird shit has gone down with his "marriages" but I can't ever remember him being dogged by harassment claims.

Not sure what the Rod Serling thing is either, but I'm going to say it had little impact on his legacy since I've never heard of it.

Allen, while the rape claims were never proven, has done enough creepy shit to earn a reputation as a weirdo. But again...his career has gone on like nothing happened.

Now Harvey's assistant has come out with stories of his behaviour. Can you imagine how many butt slaps and cumshots she received? Must have been bucket loads over the years.

To an extent, I agree - although his "art" has been pretty shitty lately.

It's a pretty tone deaf decision, regardless. It's another Amazon release, too - so that's like a perfect storm of controversy with the sexual harassment investigations toppling executives left and right there.

Irrational Man is excellent, and Cafe Society is decent. But taste is taste. The media will continue this witch hunt for Allen because it gets clicks and fills column inches. If Jude Law, Elle Fanning, Rebecca Hall, and Letty Aronson did not care about it then it is clearly an empty story. Feels like trying to flog a dead horse to me. Nobody should care.

I've seen all of Allen's films except for Jade Scorpion, Melinda and Melinda, Hollywood Ending and Take the Money and Run . He has ups and downs, but I feel like this decade hasn't been particularly strong. I wasn't even that big on Blue Jasmine, despite some good performances.

His Amazon "series" was hot garbage, couldn't even finish it.

Yeah, Blue Jasmine wasn't good at all. I agree he's inconsistent. Always has been. But I still generally regard him as one of the best living directors.

The guy said fake rumors (Not harassment specific) Cruise definitely took a hit. Travolta's gay spa rumors killed a few projects and releases for him. Val Kilmer and Nic Cage have certainly been hurt by rumors over the years. It doesn't have to be Harassment. I actually think those are the rumors people let slide the most. Like Polanski and Allen. Randy Quaid, Paul Ruebens, and the guy that was the Principal in Ferris Beuhler. Bill Cosby, OJ, and Bill O'Reilley.

Nobody cares about puny short-film editors. No value in speaking up, and they don't have any power. Thegun just fantasises about rape.

I think people confirmed Val Kilmer was an asshole during his A-list years. And even worse during his DTV years.

The rumors that hurt Cruise in the mid 00's were proven to an extent (actresses like ScarJo and Garner who said they were lured into meetings at Scientology headquarters that were essentially auditions to be his "girlfriend") and the Holmes thing remains creepy as hell. Bottom line is that no one hurt Cruise more than himself with his bizarre, manic talk show antics.

I think most people accept the Travolta thing as true (Carrie Fisher coming out and saying he is gay, paparazzi photos of him kissing a guy, the lawsuits re: him hitting on guys giving him massages, photos of him approaching guys in gyms at 3:00 am) but yeah unless he comes right out and admits he's gay it'll be unverified. I don't think it's had much of an impact on his career. He's where he is today thanks to terrible choices in projects and his creepy personal style (he's downright disturbing to look at).

Enough people have come forward about Kilmer's behavior to confirm that one as true.

Yeah, I don't think there's a lot of doubt re: Travolta. You can only settle so many lawsuits from alleged former lovers and massage therapists before you're well beyond a "if there's smoke, there's fire" situation.

I read something many years ago that added a tragic element to Travolta's situation (re: the church allegedly pushing him away from embracing his lifestyle in the 80's) that made me kind of sad for him if it was true.

But Travolta never did anything illegal, right? Same with Cruise and Kilmer. The world can cope with weird. But illegal is another thing entirely.

Someone who works a publicist told me about Travolta's aggressive pick up maneuvers with massage therapists long ago (maybe 04 or 05). I laughed when he actually got sued for it because I took the initial tale with a grain of salt.

Eh, no big deal. A bit of groping in an exercise of oily rubbing is not the end of the world. It practically invites it. It's the nature of the business in most places in the world, so I can totally give Travolta a break there.

Unlike Terry Crews, James Van Der Beek or Corey Feldman, an actor (Anthony Rapp) actually named a name in Kevin Spacey about an incident that took place when the actor was 14. Spacey tried to spin it by coming out but I think another incident may pop up and his character in HOC will be killed just to get him off the show.
