Post 2016?
So what did ya'll think of the year overall?

I say yay. Both Disney and the horror genre had career years that made up for big disappointments like 2oolander and Warcraft. Comedy could have had a better year too, producing only one great film in The Nice Guys. And I haven't seen a ton of oscar bait yet, but Arrival and Hell or High Water have the season off to a good start for me.

Summer sucked. First and last third were good.

For the most part I liked 2016's batch of films, although most of the blockbusters were merely decent as opposed to great. There were few films I really loved but there were fewer stinkers that I watched.

I've yet to see most of the "Oscar" films, but right now it's meh.

Overall yay, though it seemed like there was a six month (!) stretch where I didn't want to see a single movie in theaters. The year as a whole was severely backloaded, but the quality at the end of the year redeemed it.

At least as far as animation goes, this was one of the best years in recent memory.

Zootopia, Moana, Kubo and Dory were all excellent films.

Thanks to the last few months of the year - very good.

I went to the theater only 10 times last year - but went 4 times in the first week of 2017 to catch La La Land, Hacksaw Ridge, Nocturnal Animals and Allied - what a run of films. Also managed to see Hell or High Water, Nerve, Weiner an Don't Breath at home. Trying to catch up!

Overall, yay. Though I don't believe just three terms can be used. I'd go with a five-term system:

Amazing
Great
Good
Meh
Bad

And 2016 would fit firmly in the "good" bracket with potential to climb into great if a few more movies reach the A- or A level of the ones I've not yet seen. But if no other movies do, then it's still good for "good".
