Jesus, you watch this clips and then you can say that he's "okay"?

He's like the perfect Oscar movie. Everybody knows it's good, but you don't need to be reminded of it again and again, and you only watch it once (usually in January or February).

There Will Be Blood has great rewatchability as does Gangs of New York.

Sure, every film can be rewatched. But I've only watched them once. Don't ever plan to again.

Who do we consider the best actors active today? On the absolute top shelf where most would agree Day-Lewis sits.

I believe Javier Bardem, Viggo Mortensen, and Timothy Spall should be in the conversation. Perhaps Sean Penn, though maybe more so 10 to 20 years ago than now.

"Active" might even be stretching it with DDL...

Joaquin Phoenix has got to be on there. The Master and Inherent Vice have clearly shown that.

Michael Fassbender is also up there, so is obviously DiCaprio.

Day-Lewis is active enough. He is readying to star in Paul Thomas Anderson's new fashion-world film. Not being super prolific only increases his mystique. He avoids having the slightly downmarket/this-dude-is-not-selective aura which can plague his contemporary, Gary Oldman.

Phoenix and Fassbender are fine choices. Tom Hardy, too. DiCaprio, as much as I love him, I am not so sure. I see him more as a movie star who is very committed and tries very hard. A dialed-up version of what, say, Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling are or what Burt Lancaster was in his heyday.

What I mean is that in his case it is hard to judge betwen "now" and "ten years ago" like you did with Sean Penn because he has only starred in three movies in the past ten years and Nine wasn't his finest hour.

I'll always throw Edward Norton into the mix, I know he often stays out of the mainstream, but man, he is just so good in everything that he does. And you still can't discount Toms Hanks. He still continues to surprise (That end scene in Captain Phillips is just one of the most fantastic pieces of acting of all time for me) Dicaprio and Kevin Kline would round out my top 5 I think right now for living actors. Obviously Nicholson, DeNiro, and Pacino are still alive, but Kline has just always elevated every film he has ever been in.

Women would be: Streep, Winslet, Roberts (Of course, I'd say she is to Lecter's Sean Penn point, but you can't overlook her dominance) Blanchett, and 5 could be anyone really
