:(

He was a very very versatile director and I am sad that he hasn't been more active post 2005.

L.A. Confidential will always remain as one of the best movies of the 90's.

Never heard of him until today. Not big enough (talented enough) to become a household name, perhaps.

Yes. Because being talented is a guarantee of becoming a household name. :funny:

Not always, but being talented means making great movies. Great movies means people knowing your name. L.A. Confidential, 8 Mile, Wonder Boys...hardly masterpieces. Known films, but because of their performances, not direction. Seems like an average director that got lucky with casting one or two times.

I would say LA Confidential is pretty damn close to a masterpiece and Wonder Boys, 8 Mile and River Wild are good to great films in their genres.

A shame he didn't make more films.

Don't get me wrong, I love The River Wild and The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, but they were never SO good, so creative, so unlike anything I'd ever seen before to make me check who directed.

L.A. Confidential is a masterpiece.

I doubt that, but I do need to see it again.

I wasn't a fan of LA Confidential, nor the much ballyhooed Wonder Boys, I preferred Hanson's two 90's thrillers that preceded them: The River Wild & The Hand That Rocks The Cradle.

Bad ending for the guy. Shame he was pretty much irrelevant the last decade.
