Enjoyment of trash films linked to high intelligence
A study published this month, that the enjoyment of trash films linked to high intelligence. Quote: "To such viewers, trash films appear as an interesting and welcome deviation from the mainstream fare", says Sarkhosh. "We are dealing here with an audience with above-average education, which one could describe as 'cultural omnivores'.

Doesn't surprise me but I don't agree with their "cultural omnivore" label. Those who go to so bad it's good ironic showings, could otherwise elitist viewers when going to real film viewers as it's hipster friendly to ironically watch a film. The IQ for viewers of a film like Mechanic: Resurrection would interest me more

It's a shame Witherberry doesn't post here anymore. It still wouldn't explain his taste, but he'd pretend to find this interesting, kind of like the rest of us when reading his reviews.
Shame.

So does this mean when I tell people how much I enjoy The Love Guru and The Happening, I can shut down the haters by telling them I'm a super genius?

Funny story... the other night my wife and I were trying to find something to watch, so I suggested starting Jessice Jones on Netflix. She agreed, but while I was still flipping through channels I stopped on The Happening. She had never seen it. Needless to say we ended up watching the whole thing. WE'RE BRILLIANT!

It's a different kind of trash film though. Not Adam Sandler type of movies, IMO. Something like The Room. It takes smart people like me to appreciate that .

Re: Enjoyment of trash films linked to high intelligence
Isn't "trash" just a way to describe bad movies? And that's as subjective as anything is going to be.
Films that I consider trash: Natural Born Killers, The Zero Theorem, Independence Day: Resurgence, After Earth, Raising Cain, The Last Airbender, xXx: State of the Union, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Bringing Out the Dead, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Clash of t he Titans (2010), The Hunger Games, Fast & Furious 6, and The Cold Light of Day.

You just copied and pasted my top 15 favorite movies.
