I am really interested in this because it seems that all of his films are just fantastic. Drive, Only God Forgives, Gangster Squad, The Notebook, The Place Beyond the Pines, even Fracture, are great. So I just wondered your opinion of it.

If you could pick your Top 3, I'd appreciate it.

I haven't seen Blue Valentine and The Ides of March :(

DRIVE
THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES
BLUE VALENTINE

I enjoy a lot of his films though. Stay was pretty underrated. Also thought Gangster Squad, The Slaughter Rule, All Good Things, and Crazy, Stupid, Love were great. I enjoyed The Notebook, United States of Leland, and Ides of March. Despised Only God Forgives and wasn't super impressed by Half Nelson, Murder By Numbers, or Fracture. I remember I liked The Believer. One of the first movies I saw him in. Maybe it was the first.

4. Fracture
5. Only God Forgives

All B+ and up.

I'm afraid that Gosling might have jumped the shark in The Place Beyond The Pines - - his mannered acting style is now approaching Kabuki - - let's hope he can rein it back in.

Blue Valentine flat out sucked in the worst kinda indie way.

...though Crazy, Stupid, Love could have been great if it had a functional screenplay.

So that leaves:

The Notebook
Lars And The Real Girl
Drive
Stay
Fracture

...all great movies, though Gosling's work in the last two didn't really stand out - - so I'm going to vote for the first three in the poll.

(It's hard to argue that the guy has a much higher rate of being in great movies than the average actor - - but perhaps his agent should be getting the accolades?}

He certainly has charisma. I've not yet seen powerful, moving acting from him, but he delivers good performances, and like I said, being likeable can earn you a great career even if you're not the most talented actor (look at Brad Pitt).

Crazy, Stupid, Love is my favorite, followed by Drive. I just love the former film.

Drive
Half Nelson
The Place Beyond the Pines

His best performance is in Half Nelson.

David is right about his best performance being Half-Nelson. He completely owns that movie. Drive would be my overall favorite film, but Brooks steals the show in that one. I'll go with Ides Of March at #3.

Blue Valentine quite easily actually. Drive comes in second.
