Anyone else seriously surprised by this? 17 years after the last, 36 after the first. I've always liked the series quite a bit, even as they have gotten more and more cheap (Though Don Coscarelli has never really had much trouble stretching a budget to its limits) they've always been on the underrated side of their given years. I find it interesting they were able to film the whole thing as a secret, especially the pretty excessive cult following the series has. Also I have to commend it for keeping the cast and crew pretty much there over the 36 years of the series.

It definitely looks cheap, but so did Part 3 and 4 both costing under 700k to make. It was apparently announced about a month and a half ago. Any other fans of the series out there? I'm conflicted though, I do think think after this one, the series is one of the few that could really benefit from a remake with at least a 10 million budget.

I think it wasn't a secret. It's just that nobody cares and the media knows nobody cares, so nobody cared to feature it as a news item.
