It is crazy how little exciting/fresh/epic the new film looks compared to the marketing campaigns for Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, 22 Jump Street or A Million Ways to Die in the West. It's like the studio is throwing all they've got at the audiences, but little of it sticks... |

This is the 5th film in 12 years for the character, and they look virtually identical. It is not like The Dark Knight Trilogy, where each looked & was very different than the previous one. The posters for all 5 films all look the same, the trailers all look the same, etc. |

We're getting the 7th X-Men film in 14 years this year (including the spin-offs) and it still looks amazing. |

But the trailer says this is Spider-Man's greatest battle! ![]() Marvel films are in a similar place, at least certain ones. Thor: The Dark World particularly screamed, "This just exists to be 'all right' and float the franchise for a few months. No questions please." No real oomph despite the obligatory big-budget, computer-generated flash. |

It's a matter of opinion. I mean, personally it doesn't look great to me either, but neither does DOFP. The whole XM formula is tired and transparent. Guardians of the Galaxy looks the only refreshing superhero pic this summer. |

Marketing for this film is fine for the casual moviegoers, for us it's kind of ![]() |

Magnus wrote: ASM2 marketing just screams desperation. But it has the widest range of appeal than any film this summer outside of Transformers. 10 year old boys to 50 year old single geeks will go and see it. That can't be said about DOFP, 22 Jump Street, etc. So the film will do well just cause the nature of the property guarantees that it will. It's also the one that is guaranteed to be HUGE overseas. At least $500 million. |

Yeah GTFO, I'm anticipating this film so much and everything I've seen I like though the trailers are missing some crazy Giamatti. |

I know that an alternate title would have been too wieldy, but calling it The Amazing Spider-Man 2 definitely isn't going to help with audiences comparing this new iteration too closely/negatively with the previous one. Spider-Man 2 remains one of the best superhero movies to date, while this one looks merely okay at best. In fact, every time I see the trailer with the shot of the cop car being flipped over, my mind instantly jumps to the scene from Spider-Man 2 that it's ripping off. That said, like Magnus said, it's inevitably going to make a ton of money. I'm not really excited for it, but I'll probably still see it anyway because... well... duh, my username tells you what you need to know about my appreciation for the character, casual though it may be compared to that of the diehard comic fans. |
