Maybe it won't be such a bad thing if the forum closes. I'll never have to read Thegun's posts again!

I guess, if we all are still around, we'll see then. Your list is filled with movies from the 2000+ period. That will not stay the same way. Perceptions change, taste changes. When jmovies joined here (I believe he was 14 or so), he reviewed Step Up 2 the Streets with an A+. I'd dare say that this opinion has changed since then.

stuffp, based on your list, I think we'd make great friends. ;)

But Kiss Kiss Bang Bang being above Die Hard is your first strike (well, actually, that being above any film is unforgiveable). Overall, some good inclusions there, although I feel your list is too influenced by what is expected of a Top 100 list. I can see the action-thriller buff wanting to come out but being restrained by the IMDB-influenced culture of what is and isn't acceptable.

Anyway, #84-87 is the best lot of four in a row.

I'm a RDJ and Kilmer fan, and fell in love with Monaghan since KKBB, I love that movie.

And overall, I think I'm more so justifying the greatness of several movies, then that I'm influenced by the consensus. It's true though, that when picking a movie to watch, I'd like to get an impression from IMDB what the good movies around are. If a movie is generally loved I feel those are the ones I should try to catch, and well more often then not I feel it's a great movie in the end. So my ranking, which I carefully went through again before posting it, is as it is, because they are actually great movies, not because others say they're great.

Ok, to prove this; what supposedly great movies did you watch and hate?

Post subject:  Re: All-Time Top 100 Movie List Thread (Zwackerm and stuffp)

(feeling a bit worried)...what kind of question is that actually, I don't see how it would prove anything.

Also hate is such a strong word, I think there's plenty who I think are at least somewhat overrated. Of those I really got nothing with.

Up (2009), just mediocre, forgettable. Cute beginning, but that's it.
Blade Runner (1982), cool premise, some nice SF story telling, but man it's just boring. There's no suspense, and everything just feel way to clunky.

And then there's some more which I just think are not deserving of the high praise they get like Inglourious Basterds and The Bourne Ultimatum.

But generally, the considered great movies are truly great for me, just because they are IMO.

So, how about you, which great movies do you hate?

Nice list stuffp. City of God and JFK in the top 10 is awesome. And kudos on Raise the Red Lantern.

Though - P.S I Love You is pretty random though ;p

Thanks for checking it out. P.S. I Love You is just my favorite Dramancedy to watch with a (new) girl. I love the story, and I have a thing for Swank.

I love Contact, intriguing and intense for me. From some of your posts I can see our taste is rather alike, so you should definitely check it out.

Yeah, Batman Returns is incredibly awesome, I guess it's definitely in my top 25 for sure  ...... but come on, Shrek? it's an outrage :P

Shrek is great. It's a classic.

:funny:

It's not bad, but classic??? :hahaha:

The term "classic" has lost all meaning. Someone said the other day that, lol, Point Break is a classic.

Lots of people love Point Break, and its being remade, so I guess it could be a classic.

You are the youth of today. If you're using the term 'classic' in that way, then it 100% has lost its meaning.

Lots of people love The Raid, and oh wait, that's also being remade. Must be a classic then. Ringu? Classic! Oldboy? Classic! Robocop? Classic! Poltergeist? Classic!

Well Point Break is considered a cult-classic, so Zwackerm wasn't far off. Poltergeist and Robocop you could call classics within their genre, for how they are received. Although Poltergeist is really pretty crap actually, I guess the people then looked at if differently. It's no classic for me, neither is Robocop, but that movie I enjoy a lot.

None of those others really count. So you have one; Blade Runner.

The "great" movies that are actually crap movies are:

The Godfather
The Godfather Part II
The Godfather Part III
Blade Runner
Alien
Citizen Kane
The Birds
The Shining
A Clockwork Orange

I kinda want jmovies to come in this thread and maintain that A+ grade tbh

Yeah I don't know why the fuck I gave that film an A+. I probably just had a major hard on for Briana Evigan.

You really wouldn't trust me. I don't have a month. You're list so no worries. But trust me, it'll definitely change by the time your out of college, 7 or 8 years from now.

I guess I'm part of that last great generation when parents let their kids 8 and under watch R rated movies.

I've seen plenty of R rated movies. They just are not my favorites.

Interesting, my whole top 10 is R-rated.

Just looked at my list from 2008. Still pretty satisfied with it. Obviously a lot of them would be moved around a bunch. The best part was reading the wonderful responses from the other posters (Magnus in particular). Gotta update it. 17 year old moviegeek is a bit different than today's.

Agreed. I went through this thread a few weeks ago (actually, I think I was the one that bumped it) and reading the replies was fun.

I love your list stuffp. Many, many movies would make mine too.

Braveheart at #2, you're awesome. Also, love love love to see someone having Armageddon ranked that high.

Cool, thanks. I could see from some of your movie grades that our taste seems very alike. Did you ever post your top 100 here? (I'm terrible at using the search function).
Would love to see it.

Nice list Gamaur. Wow, GWH at one.

Cool to see a Dutch movie on there, Spoorloos at #49, I didn't see it yet, but have that downloaded and should see it soon.

Never heard of The Thin Blue Line, but that seems to be really good, I will see if I can download that somewhere.

Only #31 Master and Commander, I don't see the merit in that, I felt bored throughout.
