7. Scott Pilgrim VS The World (2010)



Scott Pilgrim does not end up topping the list, despite being the Vegas favorite. While most grieving Harry Potter fans turned to Twilight after 2007, I found Bryan Lee O Malley's wonderful Scott Pilgrim comic series and instantly loved it. The film had a lot to live up to and luckily Edgar Wright was up to the task. The man should be knighted. It is almost more appropriate that the film lands at seven, given the context. I swear that wasn't intentional. Does anybody else still listen to the Sex Bomb-Omb songs from the soundtrack? It's probably just me, and I know it's really Beck, but I can pretend otherwise on both accounts.

Yeah it's time for the mega franchises. Star Wars is what dreams are made of. I do admit that the prequels do not hold up as well over the years, though they still have their moments. Luke, Leia, Han, Chewy, Lando, R2, C3PO all left too big of a standard. Good luck to JJ trying to meet them. I felt really bad leaving Jedi off, but again, when compared to the first two the second half just doesn't live up to the legacy.

This is the order of the most recent viewing, but it's been shifting this way for awhile. While King has the unforgettable Battle of Pellanor Fields I think Fellowship is better at showcasing Middle Earth. And it has Sean Bean who is always awesome, even in National Treasure. Theoden's speechcharge give me the goosebumps everytime, the one's I get when what I'm viewing is too great for my body to comprehend.

I still listen to Brie Larson's (Envy) cover of 'Black Sheep' :-P

2. Office Space (1999)



After my first viewing of Office Space, I immediately watched it again. Then I watched it again every day for the next two weeks. I don't the current total is, but it's far higher than anything else. I earlier said that Zoolander was the funniest movie ever and I stand by that. Office Space has smaller laughs that don't come as often. Yet it is the perfect comfort movie. I don't see how anybody can watch this and not come out of it feeling better about everything.

I'd like to start of by saying that these films were all borderline on my list when I was condensing mine. They had just appeared on Flava's list, and I felt it easier to just scratch them if they weren't going to be any higher than 85, or even make the final cut A lot of the films from 85-150 are pretty interchangeable for me. 100. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997)

I begin my list with a small comedy from 1997 I was fortunate to see on my 10th Birthday. It would take a few more years and viewings before I realized the comedic brilliance that was before me, but I knew I loved it even from the start. I was there opening night for the sequels, and loved pretty much anything any of the characters said. Mike Myers and Co really nailed the genre, making not only a film that is a sharply funny fish out of water/ parody comedy, but also plays homage by being a very enjoyable spy film as well. For the 90s, I don't think any film has made me laugh harder, and I couldn't think of a better way to kick off the list. Some people may prefer some of the sequels, but with lines like "Begin the unnecessarily slow moving dipping mechanism!" I always come back to the original.


99. Thank you for Smoking (2005)

2005 Was a great year for me. I started watching a lot more smaller films and this one just blew me away. As America turns more and more to "kid gloves" viewpoint on anything that is considered unsafe, thank you for smoking takes that and slaps it in the face. Aaron Eckhart was just awesome, and the character of Nick Naylor is now one of my favorites. The rest of the cast is up to par too, especially with Rob Lowe, Sam Elliot, Robert Duvall, and surprisingly Katie Holmes. When you're constantly shoved that something is so bad, it's refreshing to see something so terrible seem "cool and acceptable again." It almost made me want to smoke.


98. Glengarry Glen Ross(1992)

I always have a soft spot for plays that I've appeared in, then seeing the film, because I'm more immersed than I normally would in the characters before I've even seen it. However, because I know the plot as well it also makes me a much harsher critic when it comes to the screen adaptation, and my god do they get everything right. From Alec Baldwin's completely new scene to every piece of Mamet dialogue spoken, this films is just awesome. It's dark, depressing, and real. It's also impossible to pick out a standout performance. They are all standouts. Lemmon, Pacino, Harris, Arkin, and even Baldwin and a pre famous Kevin Spacey in their smaller roles knock it out of the park. And they made a popular Simpsons' character just from this film. What's not to love?


97. Misery (1990)

This was the first time I realized you didn't need to be a traditional horror film to scare the shit out of you. And from Rob Reiner of all people. Not to say he isn't a great director, but I never knew he could make something so simple and subtle so intense. Kathy Bates and James Caan are amazing together and they play off each other well. And of course the Hobbling scene is still one of the most uncomfortable/ turn your head away moment of all time. Love it!


96. Toy Story (1995)

Time to lighten it up a little bit. What can I say, I've always enjoyed animated films, and was skeptical of the newly developed CGI trend. Before I saw the film it just looked weird to be honest. But I'm happy I gave it a shot. Toy Story has everything a Disney classic has and more. A wonderful cast, a great heartfelt story, awesome music, and the most exciting animation I had ever seen at that point, Toy Story still remains the best for me. I also loved the sequels and think the trilogy is one of the best ever.

Not a bad start. I highly enjoy Misery and Glengarry Glen Ross.

For many people, the world of cinema is full of wonders unimagined - - my deepest condolences to you and anyone else who has this film on their top 100 list (let alone at number one).

Didn't know they made a movie about Thatcher's playthings.

OMFG. I just realized Misery is a movie I thought I made up (or better said mixed up a couple of movies) as a kid and gave up on searching for it a looooong time ago. That one really creeped me up. I'll definitely check it out again soon now and see if it's as disturbing as I remember.

95. Gross Pointe Blank (1997)

John Cusack has always been a favorite of mine, and I really wanted to fit Better off Dead and High Fidelity on my list (Both were on mine 6 years ago) but I just couldn't find the room. Cusack's characterization is nothing you haven't seen from him before. It's filled with self commentary as well as self loathing, but for me that will never get boring. He's a riot as a Hitman coming back for his high school reunion, and his interactions with people from his past are funny, touching, and entertaining. The action and music also add an element that makes this almost the go to dark action comedy. Minnie Driver and Dan Aykroyd are also great, as is the majority of the cast in their small hometown roles 20 years later that are funny but have enough realism not to fall into stereotypes.



94. Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run) (1998)

I love foreign films, and the idea of chaos theory and this film is probably one of the best you'll ever see. Foreign films always offer a lot of variety that you wouldn't see in most American films, but what I love even more is that when you watch this film, you don't even realize it's foreign. You get so immersed in the characters, the action, and the story that you almost don't need to read any of the subtitles to get the whole picture. It's a really clever wonderful film that really can be enjoyed by anyone.

Changed the title. I love Austin Powers, Thank You For Smoking and Toy Story. Misery has been in my queue for years, I'll get around to it eventually. Wasn't even aware of Glengary's existence but it has a lot of people i like in it, so I'll have to check that out too.



Was trying to have a mic drop moment lol. Obviously it wasn't as cool as I thought it'd be. Two Towers is my #1 movie because it matches the beautiful world-building scenery of Fellowship (Fangorn, Rohan, the Dead Marshes, the Black Gate, etc...) with the epic battles of the second (Warg fight and last hour). It is edited to perfection, never lingering on the wrong storyline. And the extended edition brings Sean Bean back! And the humor added in by Gollum and the banter of Legolas/Gimli gives the film great tonal balance. Along with all the other things I love about the whole trilogy like the score, imagery, emotional impact, dialogue, performances, etc...

It's actually my least favorite of the books though. The beginning of Sam and Frodo's part is a chore to get through. Whoever decided to mash all the story lines together at once was a genius.
