Pretty simple really...this thread (heck, this forum) is about film.

If people are fine to mention Josh Hartnett as someone whose career went nowhere (though he is on TV right now) then the ones I mentioned from TV are also mentionable.

I'll throw in Jason Lee

Great in the Smith films, was in the very awesome Heartbreakers, My Name is Earl. I really thought he had film potential, kind of a Working Man's Ryan Reynolds. Seeing him wasted in cameos and Chipmunk movies is awful.

He is still in movies. Jason Scott Lee however...

How about Jennifer Jason Le(e)igh??

You mean female lead in the next Tarantino film?

She's always around, I would never call her ever popular though. I mean great GND tits in Fast times though. The over 40 rule is definitely true for most women outside of Streep and Bullock. Even Roberts fell off.

You could say Helen Mirren but her biggest roles were only over 50.

Major props to Elizabeth Shue always finding ways to stay fresh, for someone who never really took off.

I don't think you're understanding the idea of "went nowhere". Roberts is still in Hollywood movies and she is 47.

Also Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz, Halle Berry etc. star in movies and have done since turning 40.

But by your rule, Charlize Theron will become a nobody soon. ;)

And Marisa Tomei just landed the biggest role of her life at 50.

Exceptions do not mean anything. My problem is the idea if a lot of these people were popular to begin with. Orlando Bloom had sex appeal in some major franchises. But that's all he has.

All those actresseses were major draws where their careers went some where already. They aren't even part of the conversation.

That's like saying Jane Fonda's career went no where because she retired for like 17 years.

We're talking people that were popular for like 2-3 years

So you're talking about people that were popular for 2-3 years at 37-39 years old, then saying the reason they disappeared is because of the over 40 rule?

I just don't see how your rule can affect people in their 20s that are popular for 2-3 years and then disappear.

Maybe it's best to give an example of someone that fits what you are saying.

Nah not all. Point was a lot of people mentioned here have gone somewhere. I thought the point was more about faded into complete obscurity.

For instance Shia lebouf is totally on his way. 4 years since a good movie, totally crazy now.

Lindsey Lohan is still famous but her career is basically done, especially being popular.

Shia will still be making art house movies for a while. Then he'll get fat.

My only thought is why is that better than starring in a hit show?

IMO I think of thread more as fades like Larry the Cable Guy

Four years since a good movie? He...he...just called Lawless and Nymphomaniac...bad...m-m-movies... *head explodes*

I dig Shia. He seems to be enjoying a second wind as an alternative star and, in a way, as a modern enfant terrible. He has the media wrapped around his finger with his Andy Kaufman-style is-he-crazy stunts. I am excited to see him in the new one by the great Andrea Arnold (Red Road, Fish Tank).

I also like him. I always root for the underdog.

I liked Shia since he was an infant.

I didn't really like him that much when he was on Disney shows.

Brendan Fraser

He had a pretty successful career. But yeah, he is nowhere now.

Drugs killed him. Though he did have a solid 10-12 years. He even turned down the Journey sequel

Brendan Fraser had a kind of goofy look to him that prevented him from becoming a bigger, longer-lasting star. And it's almost too goofy even for comedy.

Geena Davis.

For some reason she didn't chose/ wasn't offered any mom roles aside from Stuart Little.

I totally enjoyed the Long Kiss Good Night, she was at the top of her game there I thought, but then she just COMPLETELY fell of the map.

The mention of Geena Davis brings other eighties/nineties actresses to mind: Kim Basinger, Rene Russo...

Kim Basinger was in Grudge Match. Starring with Stallone and De Niro just last year is hardly "nowhere". ;)

Anyway, I loved Geena Davis. Nice, nice, nice, friendly person.
