Name Their Worst Film: John Carpenter
Considering we've done about 500 top or best threads in the last month. Why not change it up a bit. What's your choice and why?
This kind of tough for me as I always find something memorable or positive to say about even the worst Spielberg film. And even his worst film I still wouldn't call a bad film. If I had to pick it would probably be Always. I think it's a slight remake that really doesn't try anything new, and probably my least favorite of his movies. Then probably 1941. Some of it is funny, but I think overall Spielberg failed the most in what he was trying to do with this film. It's too funny to be taken seriously, and not funny enough to be considered a classic comedy.
In order of the thread: 1. Steven Spielberg (1941 and The Terminal Tie) 2. Martin Scorcese (Kundun, Cape Fear, Bringing out the Dead and New York, New York tie) 3. Eddie Murphy- The Adventures of Pluto Nash, followed closely by Norbit 4. John Carpenter

Re: What is Steven Spielberg's worst movie?
I haven't seen 1941 or Always, so I'd say The Terminal.

Re: What is Steven Spielberg's worst movie?
Yeah, the Terminal is an interesting movie. If it wasn't directed by Spielberg I think most people would react more positively to it (Even though it did do well critically and financially) Spielberg just can't get away with it when he does more straightforward dramas. I actually think it's one Hanks best performances, when he shouldn't be believable at all in that role.

The Terminal.
When I heard SS was directing it I couldnt wait to see it. Seemed like it could be a classic. Yet it was a major let down.
Crystal Skull has to be next. It was very mediocre.

Haven't seen Sugarland Express, 1941 or Always, so it's A.I. for me.

Hook. I recently saw it after years and it was BAD.

A.I is probably my favourite alongside Munich, Jurassic Park and Duel. I find ET overrated too.

Re: What is Steven Spielberg's worst movie?
Definitely 1941. I didn't know it was directed by Spielberg until after I saw the movie. Most of Spielberg's movies (even the "mediocre" ones) I can watch after a few years and still enjoy. I doubt I will ever want to watch 1941 again.

I'll go with The Terminal. It's not even bad, it's just there and not really doing much else.

Re: What is Steven Spielberg's worst movie?
1941 is supposedly a comedy, but it's not funny. Always is much too long and boring. AI had an extra 20 minutes on the end that ruined it. Crystal Skull nuked the fridge. Hook was embarrassing.
I voted for 1941, because it had no real redeeming value. The others all had some excellent parts.
(Haven't seen War Horse or Duel from this list, though.)

Not even Belushi? He did his best to ham it up, but he was working with weak material. I mean, 1941 wasn't crap. It just wasn't funny. And because I admire Spielberg so much, it is very disappointing. Mind you, I'm OLD. I saw 1941 IN THE THEATRE. Haven't seen it since. So maybe it's not as bad as I remember.

The fact A.I. has three votes is mystifying.

Re: What is Steven Spielberg's worst movie?
No clear winner though, which was kind of what I was hoping for from this thread.
I'm surprised no one said Tintin, I haven't seen it yet, I probably will now.
