MY REVIEW

http://www.worldofkj.com/article.php?i=718

Itt handily tops everything else that came inbetween. Best point of comparison here - Beetlejuice. Haven't seen Big Fish, though.

Some things are still off and the ending could be better, but it is a lot of fun.

It was clear when the trailer was released that Dark Shadows would be more Beetlejuice than Sleepy Hollow, but it's nice to know for certain. And I'm even more excited to see it now knowing this and after listening to the score some over the past few weeks.

The soundtrack for the film is great.

Are there any significant veins of Anne Rice style melancholy-vampire drama to be found here? Or is it a straight-ahead fish-out-of-water comedy as the trailers suggest?

First half of the movie - purely fish-out-of-water stuff.

Second half - Bettlejuice-like

Melancholy drama? Not really, but it doesn't shy away from having Depp's character kill innocent people just for their blood (sufficiently bloody too for a PG-13 film). He mentions hating being a monster and all, but it is really not given much weight at all.

Sleepy Hollow is Burton's worst movie.

Awesome. I was getting concerned by the complete lack of reviews four days before release.

Big Fish is good. I don't remember a thing about it, but I remember it was good.

BTW, Dark Shadows features cameos by Christopher Lee and Alice Cooper.

No reviews up on RT and MC is worrisome, but all the pre-screening reviews I've skimmed have been very positive. Just one seemed a little mixed in saying Depp outshines the material again, but that's hardly a negative.

From what I read, though there appears to be some sort of an embargo in the US that does not exist here.
