The Amazing Spider-Man thread - Teaser poster!
http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/urgen ... t-planned/Quote: Mike Fleming and I have just confirmed that Sony Pictures decided today to reboot the Spider-Man franchise after Sam Raimi pulled out of Spider-Man 4 because he felt he couldn't make its summer release date and keep the film's creative integrity. This means that Raimi and the cast including star Tobey Maguire are out. There will be no Spider-Man 4. Instead, the studio will focus on a reboot script by Jamie Vanderbilt with a new director and a new cast. All this took place today at meeting on the lot today. An official Sony Pictures news release about it is expected.
My sources tell me that Raimi told Sony Pictures: "I can't make your date. I can't go forward creatively." And, so, once he said "That's it", Sony Pictures co-chairman Pascal and Columbia Pictures' Matt Tolmach decided they didn't want to replace him and instead chose to reboot the franchise. Insiders also tell me that Tobey Maguire heard the news in a phone call with Amy today. Deadline isn't the best source, but Mike Fleming used to work for Variety. Will have to wait and see.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More?
This is great news if true. The franchise needs a reboot. New people involved.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More?
Full of crap rumor. Didnt Tobey and Sam sign a contract for 3 more sequels? I really hate this reboot trend that tries to be a solution to the problem. Reboot the presidency, reboot your life over again. Oh no I just shot someone, let me roboot it like yesterday

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More?
Sony confirms it and so does Marvel.
I hope they will get someone better for Peter and especially someone more sexy and better for Mary Jane. Dunst was just terrible.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More?
Going back to high school is a bad idea. They need a new cast/director, but they don't need a complete reboot.
That is...unless they go back and make it true to the comics and have him fall in love with Gwen Stacy. I'd like that though most probably wouldn't care.

Does anyone still remember that Gwen Stacy was Peter's first love?

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
Sure hope Sony calls Cameron. Get Liz Allan and Gwen Stacy in the story and leave Mary Jane for a future movie. No need to screw up the storyline again.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
Does that mean Marvel will have more control over the movie or is it going to be the same deal aka Fox studios?

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
Bad idea. Not the reboot but that it's coming too soon. There were eight years betwen Batman and Robin and Batman Begins and Begins was still somewhat hurt in its performance by B&R's stench.
I think they should wait until 2015 or so.

A reboot in just 10 years is silly.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
ugh WORST NEWS EVER.
This is seriously worse news than fantastic four reboot.
The franchise is still fresh in everyone's mind. Every person knows that Tobey is Spider-man. It will be hard to replace him. Also, the first two were great movies and the third shitty so I don't see the point of a reboot so early. If they really wanna reboot then wait till 2015 or 2016.

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the end of the Spider-Man franchise.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
I know there are several directors out there who would love to grab this opportunity. However, no A-list director is gonna touch it.
Who would be a suitable replacement for Sam Raimi?

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
Good news in that they finally have the chance to do it right by not casting Maguire or especially Dunst. Both were annoying/horrible, especially by movie 3.

 Re: Spider-Man 4 No More
What the...way too soon...way WAY too soon...1 film ago, the francvhise the biggest in the world.
So, a decade after the first franchise started...their starting a 2nd? They're probably thinking itll be more CASINO ROYALE and less Batman Begins (by that I mean, Spidey 3 is more in line with Die Another Day than B&R)...but IDK.
I am kind of depressed to think that the last time I'll see Tobey as Spidey (lets face it, he was marvelous in the 1st 2) was almost 3 years ago.
This is, at the moment, a terrible decision imo.
