Time for another grim, hard-edged Robin Hood origin story
Quote: Lionsgate is in talks with “Peaky Blinders” director Otto Bathurst to helm “Robin Hood: Origins” for the studio.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson are producing through their Appian Way banner with Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell through their Safe House Prods.
Harold is writing the script set in Sherwood Forest with Robin Hood returning from the Crusades and forming a band of outlaws to deal with corruption. Harold’s writing credits include Warner Bros.’ upcoming “Knights of the Round Table: King Arthur,” starring Charlie Hunnam.
Numerous “Robin Hood” movies have been made during the past century. The most recent came in 2010 with Ridley Scott directing Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett in Universal’s “Robin Hood,” which topped $320 million in worldwide grosses.
Bathurst directed the first season of “Peaky Blinders,” starring Cillian Murphy as the leader of a gang operating in England during the aftermath of World War I. He’s repped by Casarotto Ramsay and WME.
The news about Bathurst was first reported by Deadline.com. http://variety.com/2015/film/news/lions ... 201512857/

It all depends on who they cast as Robin Hood. But I am not really looking forward to another Robin Hood.

Yeah there is no need for one. Though I may be in the minority but I quite liked the 2010 version.

Crowe's Robin Hood was crap. But it was necessary in order for people to move on from the Costner's Robin Hood (the best of them all). Not they've made a crap one, more good ones can be made. There always needs to be a "sloppy second" in order for audiences to get passed their fixation for a person in a role or a film as the perfect version of a story. It happened with Superman Returns. It happened with Terminator Salvation. And it will most likely happen with Suicide Squad (The Joker) and Batman v Superman too (although I am not sure just how loved Nolan's Batman was, so maybe that one won't count).

If anything, Batman is criticised because of his stupid voice. So I really do not think Affleck has much to overcome, and therefore Batman v Superman should not fall prey to my "sloppy second" rule. But Suicide Squad is fucked (or more specifically; Jared Leto). You cannot follow Heath Ledger and expect an easy ride.

I don't know, same could be said for King Arthur, or A Christmas Carol At this point the story has been told so many countless where everyone has their favorite. The market is always more limited now where people want more origin stories in a similar setting. See last years Dracula.
It's the main difference between comic books (which have many stories and even incarnations of the character to choose from)
Most fucked franchise will be Bond after Craig.

If Smith and the others are the leads in SS and Leto makes it his own in a fun supporting role (which really hasn't been done yet) Could lead to a very accepting and fun follow up.

Nah, they'll be fine. They recovered after Connery and Moore left. They'll do it again. What will be interesting though is what they decide to do with the tone of the series.

Re: Time for another grim, hard-edged Robin Hood origin stor
When I first heard about this on AMCmovietalk they mentioned there were a few directions they were thinking of going. It was the usual historical route but darker, a shared universe/spin off route and a more modern updated take on it. Of those, I would be interested in the first. Give it the look and feel of Costner's Robin Hood without the humor even though that enhanced that film along with having a villain performed brilliantly by Rickman. Find a good actor for this villain but drop the humor and make it dark and bleak. I'd be for that.

Re: Time for another grim, hard-edged Robin Hood origin stor
Why must everything be darker these days? Why not make a Robin Hood in the vein of Hook? Fun for all the family. I mean, it's working for Marvel. Clearly Robin Hood (2010) failed and that was much more serious than 1991's version, so darker doesn't always work.

Re: Time for another grim, hard-edged Robin Hood origin stor
It's not like the 1991 version was all light and fluffy either. That witch use to scare the shit out of me when I was a kid.
The Costner, Mel Brooks, Flynn, and even the animated film are all great. Never saw Scott's though, can't say I've ever had any interest in seeing it. Still can't believe that cost 200 million.

Re: Time for another grim, hard-edged Robin Hood origin stor
The 1991 version was not hilarious. I didn't say it was. But there was, like, no humour in the 2010 version. There were at least a few moments of lightheartedness in the 1991 film (crossing the stream, John Little/Little John joke, his wife's comments, Morgan Freeman had a few laughs directed at him if I remember, then there's Friar Tuck). Maybe it's just that I have forgotten the 2010 version (lucky me), but I really do not think there was anything on display that would make people raise a smile.

Jamie Foxx's poster looks like a teaser for Bland Panther 2, and Taron Edgerton's poster looks like an independent film about British hooligans. Such a shit start to this campaign. I guess we'll see a trailer soon.

Is Jamie Foxx playing Morgan Freeman's role? Don't tell me he's the Sheriff of Nottingham.

That trailer had slo mo all over. no no no. This looked like Tomb Raider. Now I actually enjoyed Tomb Raider but I'm not feeling this. It's facing WIR2 and C2. This is gonna get lost.

In the States, this probably would have made 4-5x more money if they had cast Jamie Foxx as Robin Hood. Overseas, probably less, but I doubt it will have much of an impact anyways.
