For some reason I usually get around comparing these two from time to time. I love both directors and both definitely have huge fanboy followings.

In one corner we've got: Se7en, Fight Club, Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Panic Room, The Game and (sadly) Alien³.

In the other corner: Following, Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

It's pretty close for me, so I'll withhold my judgement until I see Benjamin Button (sometime around the end of January, I think).

No contest. They both started out promisingly enough, but Nolan sold his soul to crass commercialism, while Fincher has successfully ridden the edge of art and commerce with no small degree of skill all these years...

This thread veers dangerously close to self-parody and I'm afraid to respond.

Nolan I guess.

Fincher. Nolan is a very good director, but he plays things relatively straight, if you will. Fincher adds a more interesting style to his movies, in my opinion.

Non-snobbery aside, this is a legit question.

I disagree - - that is a very underrated title in the Fincher oeuvre...

Stop that! That's twice we've agreed this week. :er: It's a very bad omen...

If it was an uneven number of times I'd go seek a help from a priest or something. I think we're safe for now.

Hey, I didn't mind Alien Cubed. It wasn't a patch on the first two films, but it was a fair sci fi film with some good moments, and I think we should all look back on it fondly now we've seen the fourth one.

I've got to hand it to Christopher Nolan. Some solid blows from both corners, but Memento and Dark Knight looked like haymakers from where I'm standing. I respect Se7en and Fight Club, but haven't rewatched them and doubt I ever will.

Se7en, Fight Club, Insomnia, TDK and Begins are good enough, but only once or twice.

Zodiac, The Prestige and Memento are good all the time.

Benny Baton is not much good even once.

So I guess I will go with Nolan.

Fight Club is more than enough to give it to Fincher.

Post subject:  Re: David Fincher vs. Christopher Nolan

This is a bitch of a question because I think Fincher has a more interesting resume but Nolan not only ressurected the Batman franchise but took it to heights I never imagined it could go, not to mention that I enjoyed every single Nolan film (cant say the same for Fincher)

I think I need to see Benjamin Button to see if Fincher dissapointed or not. Also, Fincher is 8 years older than Nolan...dudes not even 40 yet.

Nolan, but only because Fincher seems to be unable to make a perfect film.

When you word it like that it sounds like you're saying Nolan has made a perfect film (or more than one).

I thought Memento was a close as you can get to a perfect film for what it was.

"thought" "as close as you can get" "for what it was"

Then you agree with me that there is no such thing as a perfect film?

Post subject:  Re: David Fincher vs. Christopher Nolan

I agree with you that Christofer Nolan hasn't made a perfect film.
