So why isn't this movie getting more hype, both around here and the rest of the world? It now stands at 100% with 29 reviews at Rotten Tomatoes. Also, it just got three Golden Globe noms, one for Rourke, one for Tomei, and one for the song. It's time to jump on the bandwagon because this movie looks fantastic. Plus it's about wrestling!

And please tell me if I'm just not looking hard enough because it doesn't seem like anyone is excited for it and it's my most anticipated movie until next summer.

I've been anticipating it since Nic Cage was attached and he was the one making the rounds to ROH events. Even better now that it's Rourke.

And the song is great. Not saying it'll win Best Song at the Oscars, but if Clint beats it, murder will occur.

I think I'm gonna end up making a 40 mile trip into the city to see it. That's how much I'm anticipating it. And Bruce's song is great and his pariticpation with the movie is a good sign.

As a Wrestling fan I'm really curious to see how well Rourke pulls off the in ring scenes.

Fake 'em like they usually do?

It's funny that way back when I first read the news of this movie on wrestling websites (with Nicolas Cage attached at that point), I figured this would be some small movie no one would hear of when it was released. Glad to see it's actually getting great awards buzz, especially for Rourke, Tomei and The Boss.

Bruce singing at the Super Bowl, then at the Oscars would be great. :wub2: A win would top it all off.

Are you 10? Did you just find that out, I feel so sorry for you, your dreams crushed. :(

There is no Santa either.

Oh, Gulli. Wrestling is just one big choreography. Unless he's mentally hendicapped I see no reason why Rourke wouldn't pull the in ring scenes as good as the "professional" wrestlers. It's not like they do anything special in there.

My dreams get crushed everyday. I'm more sorry about you being a wrestling fan.

Hmmm you really have no idea how difficult it is to make it look good then. Its like saying a person could emulate DDL unless they are mentally handicapped since its just acting.

You're taking completely different things and comparing them.

It's like saying painting and dancing can be learned equally. Chances are more people will learn how to dance really good than how to paint really good.

Wrestling is more similar to dancing - and it's much easier to learn (there was a challenge in this season's The Amazing Race where they had to learn how to wrestle with cholitas and some of them managed to learn it and be very convincing in a short time they had), and acting has more similarity to painting, it's not that you can't learn how to be good at one of those, but unless you have that artistic something it will take a lot time to be at least half as good as someone more talented.

Not really Be. Wrestling is acting, its not just the in ring work its all the background stuff, the playing to the crowd the crafting of the silly persona's and yes the actual danger of it fucking up.

When somebody just flippantly dismisses it I'll admit it irks me. I mean these guys are on the road more then 300 days a year, most of them are crippled wrecks by the time they are 40 and a very small amount actually make enough money to live comfortably after the limelight is gone. I have massive respect for them.

Thats why this film is so anticipated to me, it doesn't look like anything but an honest portrayal of the low side of the profession, I hope it will be the fictional counterpeice to "Beyond the Mat"

Is the movie based on Jake the Snake Roberts life? I saw Beyond the Mat sometime ago and then this trailer. Alot of things seemed very similiar

But that's their fault!!!

Yeah, it irks me when someone just dismisses wrestling and its fans immediately (not so much be.redy, but others). Whatever. Let's go to the Wrestling thread and plan their demise. :shades:

The Jake the Snake comparisons are weird. Rourke is dealing with, being a star at one point who now is relugated to the independent scene, is searching for his daughter, and has terrible injuries. Wonder if there's going to be anything about drugs and drinking in the movie? It's about wrestling of course those have to be involved at some point.

It would've been better with Cage.

I'm not dissmissing wrestling. It's a way of fun and entertainment just like all of the other sports (even though in today's world sport started to be a very profitable business) - no more and no less. It's just that I don't see why Rourke wouldn't pull wrestling off and I found your remark out of place. It's your remark Gulli I'm dissing, not wrestling. ;)

And just to stay on topic, the movie does look good, but I'll probably get to see it in two months or even more, unfortunately. :pinch: If it gets considerable nominations for Oscar, then our distributor might get the movie out sooner or put the movie in the week where they show the Oscar nominees.

I think it'll probably be done as well as other actors perform professional sports. It looks alright, but you can tell when they are doing something wrong. Although some of the spots in the trailer do look pretty good. Rourke going off the top ropes through a table. I hope he did all his own stunts.

I'd be surprised if my local cinema's get it, living in the sticks has its drawbacks. Do you live in Zagreb, can't imagine countryside Croatia getting it either.

No. I live in Split. And we get everything that's distibuted in cinema (all the bigger cities get the movies nowadays from the day one of their distibution). Coutryside cinemas get the tapes once the cinemas in larger cities are finished with them (the down side is that they play them like only few days for one week because they have to send the tape to others).

I obviously love Aronofsky's previous work, so I'll definitely be seeing this. It might be a while before I can go and see it, but it looks great.

Watching the trailer I can't help but think of the film as a remake of the Jake the Snake Roberts segment of Beyond the Mat.
