I'd actually be more excited to see this made into a movie than what we got with Nolan's TDK.. This graphic novel was definitely the inspiration for Burton's 89 Batman and I'd be onboard to see this made if it's true.. A Batman vs Superman showdown like in the novel would be cool, plus we'd get top see the Joker get killed off to..

Frank Miller, author of the greatest-fuckin-Batman-story-ever (sans the script for Joel Schumacher’s “Batman and Robin”) “The Dark Knight Returns”, has given “300” director Zack Snyder the thumbs up to bring his ‘Elderly Caped Crusader’ tale to the big screen.

According to Slashfilm.com, Miller’s comments were made at this past weekend’s Comic Con.

Snyder, who bought Miller’s “300” to the big screen, says he’d be prouder than punch than to bring “Dark Knight Returns” to the multiplex.

“I would love to see Frank Miller’s Dark Knight made into a movie, but that’s just me”, Snyder (at Comic Con to promote “Watchmen”) said.

Nope, it ain’t just you Snyder – Frank wants it, Warner’s Michael Uslan wants it (and that’s a big someone!) and we want it.

“The Dark Knight Returns”, told over 4 issues, is set twenty years in the future, at which time Batman has retired from crime fighting following the death of Jason Todd, the second Robin.

Bruce Wayne funds the rehabilitation of Harvey Dent (”Two-Face”), leading to his release from a mental hospital, but upon re-entering society, Dent returns to crime. Wayne dons the Batman costume again and apprehends Dent, but in an increasingly media obsessed society, the populace debates publicly whether Batman is a savior or a menace.
The Joker, along with a psychiatrist, appears on a talk show to discredit Batman. Before he leaves the studio, he murders everyone in sight.

It’s a great story.

Who would you have play the aged Batman? (Clint Eastwood was rumoured at one stage - - but isn’t he just a tad too old?)
What about the Joker? It’s hard to imagine anyone other than Heath Ledger in the part.

It might never happen, but considering the big business “The Dark Knight” is doing at the box-office, and Christopher Nolan’s plan to end his Batman series after the next sequel, Warners are going to be looking for a way to keep the series going for a few more post-Bale years. It’s probably already been discussed.

He meant the movie that he never saw but is already praising Snyder's vision and saying it is going to be better than what he "saw" of Nolan's TDK

The idea in and of itself doesn't bother me. Miller's graphic novel is one of the few I've read and I loved it. I'm sure Snyder could adapt it into a very exciting and stylish film. But I don't see it happening, at least not for a long time. Imagine how confusing it would be for the mainstream public. Sure, the nerds would understand, "This is Snyder and Miller's standalone vision and exists outside of the Nolanverse continuity, blah blah blah," but the average Joe Schmoe Moviegoer would be baffled.

Wait a minute. Burton's version was inspired by TDKR? I thought the only thing that was ever inspired was the darker version of Batman ... which really ... inspired the entire batman comic and all media interpretation from that day forth.

Am i missing something?

I'd definitely be up for Snyder taking over after Nolan's trilogy ends...he could further shake up the franchise (in a good way).

Yeah...not really. Unless Snyder changes my mind after Watchmen...the guy is not that great of a director. Dawn of the Dead was solid as was 300. But they were nothing that spectacular.

All Snyder would add is some slow-motion and more graphic stuff making it rated-R. But making Batman R-rated isn't a positive neccessairly if it just for the sake of making it R-rated. And slow-motion is annoying.
Just because his past work has been R doesn't mean that TDKR would be R...he doesn't have enough power to sway Batman that way. He would tell another story of Batman, and in much more unique way than most directors. I'm not saying he's perfect for the project, but he'd sure as hell be better than another Schumaker.

Well, I wasn't talking about TDKR, I was just talking about Snyder taking over the franchise right after Nolan.

TDKR would not be something they would do right after Nolan is done. The franchise is too huge and big right now to try to risk it on something like TDKR.

Oh, TDKR has to be R-rated. I mean...like, it just has to be.
in that case, the studios would never allow it to get made.

I couldn't agree more. :thumbsup:

The last thing this franchise needs is to be gimmicked up with excessive green screening. Nolan returned it to its raw grittiness and Snyder would send it right back to Schumaker land.
