| Post subject: | "Trick R' Treat" still can't find a distributor |
The "Pulp Fiction-like" horror film was dropped by Warner Bros. and still hasn't found a distributor in spite of good early reviews and a kickass teaser. What gives? Why someone like Lionsgate doesn't pick this up is confounding. But then again, there are rumors that the new president at Lionsgate wants to get away from horror films and rebrand the studio as a more mainstream entity. Big mistake. Just look at what happened to New Line Cinema. |

New Line fits the best because they too started off with horror films (often called the "House that Freddy built") before they branched out. This is when they failed, as they no longer exist in the same form. And unlike New Line, Lionsgate isn't part of a bigger company. If it fails, it will cease to exist at all. If they just keep releasing the films that made them profitable and a name in the first place, they can't fail because horror films and Tyler Perry's films don't cost a lot and are almost guaranteed to make money consistently. |

Please, they released: Menace II Society, Sid and Nancy, The Player, Glengary Glen Ross, Seven, Boogie Nights, Lord of the Rings, American History X, About Schmidt, Elf, The Notebook, The Sea Inside, Wedding Crashers, A History of Violence, Little Children, the Austin Powers series, and the two successful Rush Hour movies, among others both of commercial and ... Well, I guess this movie won't be being released this Halloween season. It's one that needs to be released in October. It will be a hit if it is. However, movies that are delayed for so long tend to be doomed, and if it gets released during Halloween month then that means the earliest it will be released is October of 2009. I think Lionsgate should pick it up, and that will suck if they indeed do try and distance themselves from the horror genre. |

Well, they don't exist anymore so I wouldn't exactly say that they were that successful because if they were, they'd still be around. |
