I can't believe how excited I'm getting for this movie. It's almost unreal.

Such a glowing review...yet "only" 3.5 stars? I mean, maybe the reviewer just wrote about the positives and didn't try to go into the negatives, but just from reading the review, I would think its a 4-star film.

Anyways, it seems from the early word that this is not going to be a dissapointment.

He gave Begins 3/4, and you know how much we all loved that movie. So if he liked this one even more and has nothing but great things to say about it, then I think it's possible that Nolan did the unthinkable: improved on Begins.

I think 3.5 stars for the first review is PERFECT!! Had it been 4 stars - we would only be setup for dissapointment with future reviews. This way we know the film is brilliant - though possibly with a flaw or two. And atleast we know its as good or better than Batman Begins!

Travers didn't say a single negative thing about it. In fact, he mocked the potential criticisms ("too long? Only if you have a short attention span," etc.). I think the reason he didn't give it 4/4 is because he simply doesn't do that for summer blockbusters.

This has nothing on Wall-E.

talk about not having balls to give a comic flick 4 stars. Does Rolling Stone think they'll lose credibility if they give a comic flick a 4 star review (they didn't give one to Spidey and Spidey 2 either)?

Or maybe...now this is just a thought....he didn't like it enough to give it four stars?

He called it "a stunner," said he hopes Ledger gets an Oscar, and compared Batman to Michael in the Godfather II. He mocked any potential criticism of it while not offering any of his own criticism. There is no other reason for him giving it less than 4 stars besides it being a summer blockbuster. At least if there is a reason, it's not written in the review.

Theres a total trend with Travers, just look at his track record, no movie that isn't in the hunt for an oscar will have a shot at 4 stars.

Travers won't give non oscar type films 4 stars. So 3.5 is great for TDK.

either way, rating systems out of 4 are a joke. Yes, what matters most is whats in the review itself but most of the time people will just glance at the rating.

I thought the first one was pretty slow, and my hopes are pretty low for this second one, but I can't wait for the third one!

Not as much of a joke as rating systems out of 10, where ratings of 2, 3, and 4 are rarely if ever used...

The Joker represents the last completed role for Ledger, who died in January at 28 before finishing work on Terry Gilliam's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. It's typical of Ledger's total commitment to films as diverse as Brokeback Mountain and I'm Not There that he does nothing out of vanity or the need to be liked. If there's a movement to get him the first posthumous Oscar since Peter Finch won for 1976's Network, sign me up. Ledger's Joker has no gray areas — he's all rampaging id.

i hope he's good enough to be nominated.

Pete Travers is no joke-if he saying Ledger deserves an OSCAR WIN, let alone nomination, there will be MUCH Ledger discussion come award season.

Yeah, Ledger's getting in unless there are a bunch of good performances by old, white, veteran males later on in the year (think Arkin in LMS).
