The Ruins looks like the first really good widely released horror flick in a long time. I read the novel it's based on and it's pretty terrific. Tense, outrageous (in a good way) and sometimes just plain demented. The adaptation looks to be pretty faithful to the source. When half-asses remeakses like One Missed Call, The Eye or Shutter can open to $10+ million each, I hope The Ruins can manage that too. Anyway, I hope as many of you as possible will go out and see it. |

I agree Lecter. It looks like the best horror film to get a wide release in AGES!!!!!!!! It's so rare for great ones to get wide releases now. I'm so sick of all of this same old, watered down PG-13 crap that is more boring than scary. I know this one will be great. It is opening on my B-Day ![]() |

I'm going with Leatherheads first. The trailer for The Ruins looked like the same old, same old... |

It looks like Turistas meets The Descent (two very good movies, IMO), but supposedly if it follows the book then it isn't like that. |

I think it looks like Cabin Fever and Turistas more than anything. And that makes me look the other way. |

Cabin Fever was by Eli Roth, which is why it sucked. This isn't, so that automatically makes it better. Anyway... http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news1apr5il9f00l4s A major theater chain in Canada is refusing to show a new horror flick entitled 'The Ruins' which opens this Friday. The theater chain consits of over 400 theaters here in Canada, and all 400 of them will not be showing the movie as scheldued. While a huge dissapointment by Dreamworks and Paramount Pictures, the film is still scheldued to open in over 2,100 theaters this Friday across the U.S and Canada. No word yet on why the theater chain won't show the film, more updates to come as story expands. The film which stars Jonathon Tucker and Laura Ramsey is about a group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they, along with a fellow tourist embark on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins. |

Wonder if it's because it is a Paramount movie. Theatres don't like those sometimes because Par charges too much to rent the film. |

I hope everyone goes to see Ruins this weekend, i would, but i live in the UK and have to wait until the 6th June!!!! jeez. Prom Night is really going to kill it next weekend so it has to make as much money as possible FRI-SUN. Plus The Ruins looks gritty and intense. |

I have been reconsidering seeing this movie, solely based on the Doc's recommendation (he is one of the few KJer's whose taste seems to come anywhere near to aligning with mine on any kinda consistent basis) - - but, not being a horror fan - - I'm warning you right now, Dr. Lecter - - If this thing sucks, it's all on your head!!! ![]() |

Obviously, that goes for every genre. Let me put it this way: if you don't want to see something gritty that will make you quite squeamish, then avoid this. Otherwise, it should be an intense experience. It's obviously brutal, sometimes sickingly so, and yet, despite the ridiculous-sounding plotline (a killing plant!!!11!), it's all fairly realistic and it's more of a psychological conflict with the protagonists. Well, that's the way the book is like. I don't know about the movie, but from all I've seen so far, it seems like a faithful adaptation. |

Of course I'm going to see it Friday! I ♥ horror movies and The Ruins looks awesome. Really looks like one of the best horror films in years. I'm not a fan of the Saw series at all. Sorry. |
