With 2012, his next project. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117981155.html Quote: Roland Emmerich is ready to wreak havoc on the planet, and once again, multiple studios are vying to go along for the ride. CAA is shopping "2012," an apocalyptic spec script written by Emmerich and Harald Kloser, who collaborated on "10,000 B.C.," the prehistoric epic that Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures releases March 7. Studio toppers read the script Tuesday, and indications are that nearly all of them were interested enough to meet with Emmerich and reps Wednesday to hear his budget projection and creative aspirations. After that, studios will bid on what is essentially a greenlit film, one that Emmerich intends to direct next and have ready for a summer 2009 release, barring a prolonged Screen Actors Guild strike. Emmerich has sold several of his tentpole projects in spec auctions that came with production budgets and release dates, something that was done with "Independence Day" and "The Day After Tomorrow." Both of those films were purchased by 20th Century Fox and turned into global hits for the studio. According to sources, Emmerich's latest project has more going for it than the big idea that studios love. Studios are hungry for fresh material after the writers strike, and getting the chance to round out a 2009 slate with an Emmerich-directed extravaganza will be a tempting proposition. |

Too bad fox won't grab this since they already have huge films coming out in summer 2009. WB could use this since they have nothing remotely big coming. I love Roland Emmerich films. He is better than Michael Bay because he destroys cities spectacularly. This also makes me wonder what will happen to the Fantastic voyage film that is supposed to be ready for 2010. I always thought he made a film and released it 2-3 years after his previous film. But i am guessing 10,000 BC was completed in 2007 and studio wanted to release in 2008. But wouldn't it make sense if he released this in 2012. |

Wait wasn't WB the studio funding this when MB was attached to direct this? Why is there a bidding war then? |

He is perfect for this and I like his world destruction better than Bay's (though I love Transformers). Yeah 10,000 BC came was supposed to come out in 2007 so there is enough of a gap. They wont release it in 2012 because that is when this film is based and thats when the Mayan's predict the world will end so its better to have that as a future event - rather than in the same year the world should have already ended. Or if the world does end - then they cant release it then anyway ![]() BTW - this is great for Summer 2009. Its really shaping up now. Wolverine Transformers 2 2012 : War of Souls Ice Age 3D Prince of Persia (is this still happening) Star Trek Up The Year One GI Joe Land of the Lost Angels and Demons Fast and the Furious 4 Night at the Musuem 2 Terminator : Salvation Astroboy |

One of Roland Emmerich's conditions is that the marketing of the movie will be done his way not the studio way. |
