A slight aside, Insomnia (the origional Nor/Swede film) is fantastic and very un-Hollywood for anybody who wants the see the story the origional way. Even though Swank and Williams are really great in Insomnia.

The biggest problem with Pacino is he is kind of pigeonholed into a certain type of role.

Al Pacino is defined as one of the greatest actors of all time. He starred and "made" such great films as Seprico, And Justice For All, Dog Day Afternoon, The Godfather Part II, Glengary Glenross and Scent of a Woman. However, after Scent of a Woman (when he finally one his long deserved Oscar) he has only done a few roles here and there. I am just curious what has happened to him. I mean, a lot of critics said he was fantastic as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice...but there was not oscar buzz for him at all, what is the deal. In conclusion, my conclusion is...how come no one has any love for who I feel is one of hte greatest actors ever, not just this year, but since he won the Oscar. p.s.--I am not part of the Pacino generation, I am someone looking from today's cinema and it still is phenominial...it stands the test of time.

You could say the same thing about Robert DeNiro. He's one of the greats, but his film choices the last years haven't been...great. He's in Hide And Seek this weekend? I think some of it may have to do with their age. Pacino and DeNiro may not be able to get the quality roles that they once did. Pacino may work less, Deniro just does crappier movies.

He was in Angels in America. When actors get to Pacinos age...they probobly want to take things easy - being presteigous and on the A-list isnt so much of a priority any more for him im guessing.

The Swede version is very, very cold which fit the piece more. But that's why in my view it's so powerful. The ending is much better and more realistic in my view (no action!).

I guess he realised that better stars have come along, instead of being bitter about it, he left the scene. Not knowing that people still like him and prefer him to newer stars.

Pacino won an Emmy last year for Angels in America. In TV terms, and even film terms, that was an A-list role. He's no more 'gone' than, say, Robert DeNiro or Robbin Williams, both of whom have had their minor flops over the past few years.
