Your Rankings of the Musicals of the Decade!
Following on Dr. Lecter's own rankings of the musicals of this decade on the fourth page of the Dreamgirls review thread, I thought it would be fun for all of us musical fans to do our own rankings. Here are the candidates in the order they were released: Dancer in the Dark Moulin Rouge! Hedwig and the Angry Inch Chicago The Phantom of the Opera Rent The Producers Idlewild Dreamgirls Hairspray Across the Universe Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street Mamma Mia! High School Musical 3 Repo: The Genetic OperaI have also added a poll in which you can pick your top three musicals of the decade to see if we can get any kinda consensus on this 'round here...

Re: Your Rankings of the Musicals of the Decade!
I haven't seen the most recent two musical on the list yet (HSM3 and Repo: The Genetic Opera (what a crummy release they gave that one!)) - - but here are my rankings of the twelve I have seen:
Moulin Rouge! Hairspray Hedwig and the Angry Inch Rent Chicago Idlewild Dreamgirls ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Across the Universe Mamma Mia! The Phantom of the Opera The Producers Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
(Note: Those above the line are all-time classics which I hope to see many times in the future. Those below the line are crap which I wish I could erase from my memory.)

Between 1980 and 2000, only 18 musicals were released (with only the last 4 of those being released in the 90's) - - they were: The Blues Brothers Xanadu Popeye Pennies From Heaven Victor/Victoria Grease 2 Annie The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas The Pirates of Penzance Yentl A Chorus Line Little Shop of Horrors Absolute Beginners School Daze Cry Baby Newsies Evita Blues Brothers 2000

Oops, I forgot the animated musicals from the 80's/90's - - there were heaps of good ones - - eg: Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast...

Re: Your Rankings of the Musicals of the Decade!
1. Moulin Rouge 2. Dreamgirls 3. Chicago 4. Hairspray 5. The Producers 6. Sweeney Todd 7. Mamma Mia! 8. The Phantom of the Opera 9. Idelwild 10. Repo: The Genetic Opera
Looks like I forgot some in that thread.
Anyway, the first two are great, #3 and #4 are very good and #5 is solid too. The rest, I wasn't a big fan of, but #6 and #7 still had some solid stuff going for them.
I still wanna see Rent.

Re: Your Rankings of the Musicals of the Decade!
Dancer in the Dark is best by a mile, follwed by Moulin Rouge which is close behind. Scalely speaking.

Yeah there is no Dancer in the Dark on there.
DITD, Moulin Rouge! and Hedwig. Of the choices listed above, add Chicago.
