When I saw the Passion, there was no standing ovation, just stunned silence and some soft weeping. |

I don't think I've ever seen an audience applaud a film at the end, let alone a standing ovation. We in Britain are a reserved lot, don't you know. If it's a truly brilliant film we've just seen, we might flash a pompous sneer at the screen but never a clap. |

Best audience appreciation ive seen is people saying "that was brilliant" on the way out. We in England aren't as brash or outspoken as you Americans, so we tend to just leave the cinema. |

I find it kind of bizarre when people give a standing ovation to a movie. To a stage play or some performance where the players can hear you clapping it makes sense to me, but to a movie? |

I hate clapping in movies, when people do it, I yell at them..I find it irritating, especialyl if htey do it during the movie. For live perforamnces it makes sense and I encourage, but for a movie, wtf :???: |

I saw a lot of movies that got clapping at the end. The only ones I remember getting a standing ovation were The Passion of the Christ, Spider-Man 2, and The Day After Tomorrow (I'm not jokin' either). A lot of movies with clapping, though. |

Maybe Americans think that if they clap at the screen, Halle Berry will pop up and Meow then bow? Maybe a spot of coffee with Miss Berry afterwards?
No, ive never been witness to and standing ovation. Best response ive ever personally found in theaters was to Finding Nemo and The Grudge. |

Fahrenheit 9/11 (Opening night sold out out crowd in extremly liberal college town. Do the math.) Other than that, nada. I agree that appluading during or at the end of movies is rather ridiculous. I think it's just people wanting everyone to know that they liked it. It's like giving a review without any of the work or intelligence, which explains why we Americans do it. :razz: |
