They need to wait another 10 years, when the '90s are cool again and the movie versions of Pokemon and Mighty Morphin Powers Rangers are in the works.

Exactly. The 80's are in right now. Wait until a re-start of Jurassic Park does well, and then we'll talk.

In all seriousness, I've been waiting for another X-Files movie for what feels like ten years, so I'm reluctant to believe that they're ever gonna make one.

I think they should just bring back the TV show and not bother with movies.

Im looking forward to the film but my god why did it take so freaking long for a sequel. I hated the bickering back and forth between David Duchovony and Chris Carter. The movie should have been like released 5 years ago and we would be on a third sequel by now.

Now this series looks good on the big screen

unlike

the

Simpsons

They've been talking about making this movie since 1999.

The question now is if X-files 2 will get a summer tentpole release similiar to Simpsons and Live Free and Die Hard although I dont know if the fanbase is faithful to the series anymore since its been so long

Exactly. And every four to six months since then, there has been a story where a deal is "almost done". I'm so sick and tired of waiting for it to happen. I'm not going to believe it till I'm sitting in the damn theatre watching it. And even then I'll have to wait till the end credits, because they may just be subjecting me to another lame movie starring David Duchovny that will never make money.

But, say the deal is close. I think this movie could do EXTREMELY well. No more than the first film. Probably $50-60 million domestic, which is more than many are predicting. I think the sheer curiousity is there, from fans of the series the stopped watching after the first film and the fans that watched till the very end. A "monster" movie could only help business.

I hope it's just a monster movie. The first one worked having a conspiracy storyline because it was released right in the middle of the series. By the time this film gets out - if it ever does - it'll be at least six years since the show ended. No one will remember where the story left off.

Speaking of that, how would they make this work in the context of the final episode. Mulder and Scully were basically fugitives - would they try to work that in, or just ignore it. I also wonder if they'll bring Doggett and Reyes into it.

Look at me, speculating about a film that'll probably never get made...

Mulder could start out in prison, or being released from it. He could have went in to save Scully maybe, took all the blame.

Maybe she's married to someone else right now, and that causes needless sexual tension.

MAYBE HE'S KRYCHECKAASDKFJ;ALSKD

I hope they're sticking with the plan to make it a stand alone monster film. Those were some of the best X-Files eps.

I was disappointed with the first one, it seemed like a tv movie.

u have gotta be kidding me.

This is so late.

I smell bomb.

FOX is in serious deep shit next year.

Aside from that animated movie coming in march i don't think any of their other movies will do well. I smell a terrible summer for fox in 2008.

It's Sunday, and still no official announcement.

I hate X-Files rumors.

I news-googled The X-Files, and there's two conflicting stories: one, Gillian Anderson states that Duchovny is corrected, and a sequel is very close to becoming official for a 2008 release, with Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz both pitching ideas to FOX. The other story says that Gillian Anderson has backed out of the sequel, and Julianne Moore is even mentioned as a possibility to replace her.

I think the second story may even be an April Fools joke. I don't see how Gillian could back out of a movie that hasn't even been written yet. Call me naive, but I think this could really happen. I really hope.

Fuck, I should have known. Julianne Replacing Gillian Rumor An April Fools Joke

What got me was that a few sites reported this on April 2nd, but Moviehole.net reported it on April 1st, then later confirmed it was a joke.

In any event, the rumors that a sequel is close to being confirmed are true (unless it's all part of an elaborate joke), or at least as true as they have ever been.

And I just realized that, as far as I know, the 24 movie is being released in 2008. This could be the greatest summer ever, assuming both are released in the summer.

I always thought it was a mistake and they jumped the gun when they revealed that Mulder's sister wasnt abducted but died decades ago in the "Closure" episode (sad episode too). They should have saved bits of information and a more climatic changes for the movie
