I don't know about you, but it looks like independent films are doing better than most mainstream hollywood films. I mean they have low budgets, they open low, have excellent legs, and have impressive multipliers. So my question to you is do you think there is going to be more independent films in the future? I sure hope so, because there are lots of Independent films in my Top 10, and I personally enjoy them a lot. I just hope Hollywood makes more of them.

Most films aren't independent anymore, even though they say they are. Focus, Miramax, Dimension, all those are just arty imprints of major studios.

I think appreciation of indies has a lot to do with your expectations going into a picture. I think people tend to treat indie films a little bit more gently than big Hollywood films.

In truth, I've always found that the ratio of good to bad indie films, foreign films, or really anything, is pretty much the same across the board, even when compared with Hollywood films.

The fact that you have "indie" films in your top 10 basically just means that that 10% of all independent film has floated past the real indie garbage and it shines because its had to work harder to get to the top.

What I'm saying is...

Because there are great public "indie" films doesn't mean that there are no bad ones, it's just that the shitty Hollywood films have an easier chance getting distribution and notice.

Nope, there is always a counter-culture and film technology is getting incresingly less expensive.
