Post subject:  Actor Fetish Film Spree
:oops: Have you ever discovered an actor/actress or director and just done totally nuts once you've made that discovery? I mean watched over half a dozen movies in a row with no mixing it up (other movies or taking time off between, etc)?

I have. :oops: Besides the obvious James Bond-a-thons on TBS that had me watching about 14 Bonds in two weeks, I also was first introduced to Fellini through a festival a theatre had on his deathday anniversary. I say my first 6 Fellini's gib screen and in the span of four days.

But those are well know and have already been professed...lets go deeper into the closet shall we? I went on a massive William Hurt watching spree about two years ago when I first "discovered" him (The Accidental Tourist). I'd seen Smoke before, but didn't know it was him at the time, so I rewatched it along with Altered States, Body Heat, Gorky Park, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Children of a Lesser God, Broadcast News, The Big Chill, Until the End of the World, A Couch in New York, Dune, and Tuck Everlasting. Yeah...didn't see any movies by other people, and probably watched them all in the span of two weeks. :oops:

Only one I really disliked was Couch in New York.

Anyways...out with it World of KJ members. Which stars and directors did you go on obsessive viewing streaks with? I know there are others of you out there... :wink:

Well, thinking about it, I really don't consider myself an Elite movie watcher in that sense to where I become obsessed with an actor or actress and go on a movie watching marathon spree.. In the 20 years or so, I just can't think of anyone that inspired me that much to do so, but as for William Hurt?? Great actor that you don't hear much from these days and one movie I do remember I loved that he was in was a movie I believe from 1979 called "ALTERED STATES"... I think that was the date that came out in, but that was a pretty trippy movie with all the visuals they showed while he was tripping off Peyote and morphing into a Neanderthal... Good movie and an oldie.. :wink:

As unlikely as it may sound, I became a little obsessed with Frances McDormand after I watched Fargo. In a few weeks I quickly watched Beyond Rangoon, Short Cuts, Lone Star, Blood Simple and Raising Arizona just because of her. She's not the most beautiful woman in the world, but I just really, really like her.

:D Yeah....I have to admit I just knew there would be at least one true fanperson around here in a sort of unsettling freakish way. Here's to the *a-thons* other personal differences aside!

Yeah, she's reallt excellent. I think the first movie I remember her in was Fargo as well. Didn't she get best actress in the oscars for that too? I have to say she was spectacular in Blood Simple. I thought Raising Arizona was Holly Hunter? But I saw it a long time ago so probably have no idea what I am talking about. Which is usually the case if anyone reads my posts carefully. :oops:

Did you see Man Who Wasn't There? She was the one redeeming quality in an otherwise terribly weak movie. She is an exzcellent and very underrated actress.

Mcdormand has a small part in Raising Arizona. She's Cage and Hunter's friend in the movie. It's interesting to note that she and Hunter were roommates at one point before they 'made' it and have continued to be friends. If you watch Blood Simple there's one scene where you hear Holly Hunter's voice on the phone. You can't miss that voice!

I did see The Man Who Wasn't There just for her and the great cinematogrophy. She was also one of the best things about Almost Famous which I found a tad overrated. She does have several interesting new movies coming out which I'm eager to see.

Dolce, you should watch the documentary Searching For Debra Winger sometime. It has some very interesting clips of interviews with some actresses. While there's a little too much whining going on, some of the interviews are fascinating, particularly those with Mcdormand, Hunter, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jane Fonda.

Well, I have Star-Trek-a-Thons :oops: but we won't go there.

To be honest, I used to rent anything we Leo DiCaprio. Total osession ala dolce. :oops: :lol: He made some really, really bad movies when he was young.

Yeah, the scene where she realizes he's responsible and she's sitting there in the chair with that face is perfect. She has a way of never over-doing things, but still really showing her emotions through her face and action. Definately the highlight of Man.

I will check out Debra Winger doc as soon as I can. Thanks for the recommendation.

Zach---Hahaha. Star-Trek-a-thons. I bet you're definately not the only one who has done that. T.V. series or movies?

Leo gets alot of bad rep for the teenage heartthrob thing, but actually, with the exception of The Beach, and maybe one or two other's he has good film selection. That's one of the reasons I trust Hurt, because I realize his taste in script and character selection and my taste in movies is compatible. I pretty much know I'm going to like movies he is in. That's probably the same for you and Leo. If you like the type of movies he picks to act in, than you know when you see his name pop up that the movie will probably appeal to you.


Algren--De Niro is tricky just because he has done so much that I no longer am sure the movie will be great just because he selected a role to play in it. Same problem with Gene Hackman. I LOVe him and think he's one of the top 5 actors ever, but for every Conversation, French Connection, Tenenbaums he's done, he's also done a Heartbreakers. :P

Dolce,

Mostly movies. I'm not THAT geeky. I don't have all 720 episodes taped, but I must admit I watch them whenever they are on and I stay home fridays to watch new Enterprise episodes :oops: :lol:

Leo is a respectable actor. I've seen all his work, and he did some great stuff when he was young - especially This Boy's Life, an above average flick. Then again, he also starred in Criter's 3 :roll: :wink: A secret hidden pleasure of mine: Man in the Iron Mask. One of my favorite movies, and everyone else seems to hate it :oops: :P

And to be totally honest, I know lots of people here don't like Jerry B., but I love most of his movies. It's a different kind of love - it's my secret love for corney action flicks. I can't help it. A secret obsession. :oops:
