and it was all types of great.

Looked great, great story, great acting, great end credit song.

I can't post a review until the film opens but I'll allow everyone to ask 1 [s]yes or no [/s]question.

Unfortunately, I haven't seen the Illusionist (maybe this weekend).

The Prestige is the best magic movie I've ever seen.

The best Hugh Jackman film I've ever seen
The 2nd best David Bowie film I've ever seen (Labyrinth is #1)
The 2nd best Ricky Jay film I've ever seen (Boogie Nights is #1)
Not sure where it ranks for Scarlett (I'm madly truly deeply in love with Lost in Translation and Match Point).

I'll post what I wrote in my notepad following the screening:

Quoting Harry Cutter as played by Michael Caine

there are three parts of a magic trick

The Pledge, where a magician shows his audience something ordinary, when it probably isn't.
The Turn, where the ordinary object does something extraordinary.
The Prestige, where the astonishment takes place as the audience cannot unravel a magician's secrets.

I'll hide the rest, it's not a spoiler really.

[spoil]I was able to guess the "prestige" (there are two actually) of well, The Prestige roughly one half hour at the very least before I should have. It doesn't make the film any less magical, any less magnificent. Just means I've been raised on the likes of The Sixth Sense and The Usual Suspects. Just means I'm too smart for my own good. I wish I was knocked out but I saw them coming a mile away. Maybe you will as well. The key to The Prestige is in its title. And remember, like all magic, it's mostly slight of hand. Mostly. [/spoil]

You should definately see the Illusionist, Edward Nortan as per usual is suberb. It'll be interesting to see how the two compare, I'm going to see The Prestige when it opens.

It's Jackman's film (based on the structure of the story)...

BUT Bale carries most of the emotional weight on through its climax.

There's lots of give and take between the two.

So it sounds as though Bale is more supporting, why dont you think he's due for a supporting nod? Especially if he carries the films emotional weight
