How come I have not heard of this movie before yesterday? Look at that cast! Marlon Brando and Liz Taylor. It looks interesting from the synopsis on IMDB, but the rating for it is only 6/10, which isn't too brilliant. Has anyone seen this movie? Do you recommend it or was it an experiment gone desperately wrong? Even the cover for it look interesting, and I have a tendency to judge books by their cover (or rather, movies by their cover boxes). With that cast and that title? With John Huston directing? Is there a reason why this film is not big? Or is it well known and held in good criticism, and I'm just completely clueless?

I'm apparently really special. When I saw the thread name, I thought "Why is Dolce posting about Bond? Wait, is that the title of the new 007 film?"

Ah, that was a good morning laugh. And no, I never heard of that film before.

Probably not a 'big film' because of its camp, comedic and sexual content.

Anyway, youve heard of it now, so you can watch it, and tell us all how good it is.

@Loyal But just as you were thinking it was the new Bond film, you happened to notice who started the thread, and then realized more likely it was going to be some obscure title reprinted from outtakes because the original was burned in WWII (read: Madchen in Uniform)...or something like that anyways. :wink:

I wondered that unless MGM dug up Vittorio de Sica and he's directing the next installment, what the hell is Dolce doing.

De Sica couldn't do a Bond flick, but get Antonioni to do it and I would treat everyone on the site to opening night tickets. :wink:

And lets be honest, we'd still like to hear her opinions on Brosnan's Goldeneye.

Okay okay. Might as well since apparently no one has actually heard of the movie this thread is about including myself.

I thought Goldeneye was the best of the Brosnan James Bonds. They have gotten worse and worse with each addition to the catalogue. I think as an introduction to Brosnan, the Goldeneye had alot of promise. I liked the use of unheard of women, and there was actually some great build to how he meets Natalya. How they see the body heat on the radar but don't even know who they are looking for when he goes to get her. I did think Xenia was a bit to stupid of a bad girl. There's a long history of that going back to Grace Jones in View to a Kill. But Jones at least killed with little needled butterflies. The "suffocating men by wrapping them between her legs" was a pretty retarded metaphor. She got boring because she didn't talk much either. I miss the bad girls he would meet at casino's that did stuff like play a hand against him, and occasionally open their mouths to do something other than screech. But in fairness to Goldeneye, she was a small part, and didn't get in the way that much. I liked when they bushwacked through Cuba and discovered the lake could be drained (by falling down it).

I wish the pen had done something else except for blow up though. i miss the days of hand guns and one on one violence vs. massive explosions. If you look at ones like From Russia with Love, there aren't explosions at all. and my favorite, Goldfinger, gave us suffocation through paint, and Oddjob. Much better than just everything being about explosions. I miss the cold and calculating Bond as well. In Dr. No, when he stuffs a pillow under his blankets and waits by the door for the assassin to fire at the pillow. Then he just says "No no. Now its my turn" and just aims and shoots once. Much more cold and vicious. I hated the overly emotional dueling scene in the most recent ones. Bond is sophisticated he wouldn't damage expensive heirlooms from the Royal collection just because he's being a little boy with a little toy sword duking it out with another little boy and sword. It was just wrong.

So yeah, Goldeneye was the best of the recent installments, but it wasn't up there with Goldfinger, For Your Eyes Only, and Octopussy.

Ya, I've heard of this film. I haven't watched it yet, but being a Brando fan (duh? ) I had come across it.


Sheesh, you know, I wish I had a means of getting this stuff.


Getting to a vid store that has them would take a good 1hr+ trip.
