Post subject:  The Last House on the Left remake!
"Rogue Pictures has closed a deal to remake "The Last House on the Left," the controversial 1972 horror film that was banned for much of the last twenty years in the UK and jump started Wes Craven's career reports Variety.

The original followed a pair of adventurous teen girls who are kidnapped, raped and murdered by a gang of thugs. The killers unwittingly hole up in the home of one victim's parents, who, upon realizing what their guests did, devise gruesome revenge.

Craven, who wrote and directed the original, will produce the remake which is eyeing an early 2007 start date. This follows in the success of this year's "The Hills Have Eyes", a similar early Craven effort that got the remake treatment.

Craven also confirms that new versions of his 1989 flick "Shocker" and 1991's "People Under the Stairs" are also in the works."

It was just a matter of time. Man, I wanna bet ANYTHING it will be sugercoated to no end and will not be nearly as harsh and brutal as the original. Bad idea, IMO.

Also...what's up with the idea to remake Shocker and People Under The Stairs!?!??! They ran out of ideas and films to remake completely?!

Last House is a film that can never be duplicated. It just can't. It, like Doc said, will be sanitized and rated R...the original still bothers me when i watch it. Good for Craven to make some cash, but a bad idea artistically.

If he'd be up for another Craven remake, I'd love to see Aja tackle Last House. He's probably the only modern genre filmmaker that could do it justice. I'm sure he'd ditch the fucking keystone cops, too.

A People Under the Stairs remake could actually be kind of cool. The concept was always kind of creepy.

I don't get the Shocker remake, though. That movie is classic because of how cheesy it is, and the awe-inspiring performance of The Berg. That could never be duplicated.

Way too soon. The movie's just a little over ten years old.


It's not exactly a well-known classic, though and it's 15 years, so...should be fine.

Not that I think anyone would really care for the concept.

A remake wouldn't bother me. Last House hasn't aged very well in my opinion and who knows it my get the full gore R treatment.

Just for the laugh I'd love to see a hollywood remake of Cannibal Apocalypse as well just see how they could possibly churn out a PG-13 varient.

It'd be a neat short movie. About 4 minutes or so. 3 1/2 of which will be credits.

Yeah, but would it be a Rape Revenge tale like the original movie was??? With the MPAA nowadays and how the world has changed since the original came out, would the studio used graphic rape like the original had cause I really doubt it by today's standards??

They could make the film outside of studio control (like they did with the Hills remake) and sell it later. Most studios these days don't have an issue releasing hardcore horror films, because of the success of films like Saw and Hostel. There's clearly a market for it.

Than again, how many directors are out there brave enough and with good enough of a vision to pull that off? Aja, maayyybe Roth, probably Rom Zombie...none of them likely candidates for the remake, IMO.
