Post subject: | XMEN is the most Impressive Superhero Franchise of all Time |
You guys can say what you want, but dont worry I will give evidence to support my claim. #1 I'm not talking about Adaptation, after the first film we knew that the Xmen films werent the best, but an interesting take, much like Burton's Batman Returns. #2 All three films are majoritly well recieved, ranging from good to great. All with Imdb ratings over 7, good yahoo scores and cinema scores of a B or higher. #3 The franchise, much like Batman and Superman before it, went through an overhaul behind the scenes, and for once, the Franchise stood against all the backlash and became the most exciting and entertaining film of the summer season so far. Quality wise, we know the third has problems, but that does not hurt enough to be considered a horrible film. #4 Most importantly, Never has the first sequel of a superhero film ever outgrossed the original, where making Xmen the only one. Not even your mighty Spiderman could do it. Whats even more amazing is that The third film will undoubtdly gross more than the 2nd domestically. This puts it in the rare blockbuster franchises such as Lord of the Rings. #5 Although this is not confirmed yet, the third film in the series has highest opening Friday, quite possibly the highest 3day weekend, and the Highest opening for Memorial Day Weekend. So finally people can stop saying the overrated Spiderman is the best because it has the highest Opening Weekend. #6 Not only is their a hint at another sequel that people cheered at the end, but there are even spinoff films in the works. Meaning that although the series could sustain more sequels in the future. Meaning that the Franchise has the best possibility to go pass 4 films. Joining Juggernauts such as Rocky, Star Wars, and James Bond. (Batman does not count due to the restart) Let the flaming begin, but no other Superhero Franchise has more points for it. If you think otherwise please give reasoning. |

We'll see in a year wont me, but it still wont increase 30 million over the lasts opening weekend like all of the Xmen films did, and box office wise, Spidey is very likely to fall short again, with the loss of higher weekdays, more frontloadedness from it being more of a fanboy film. Though I really hope Spidey 3 is great, everything about it is good so far, except the loss of Danny elfman, because the 2nd was such a dissappointment to me. |

Spider-Man. It has just as much raves from critics and the audience, more actually. Say what you want about X3, but the critical response has been much more lackluster for it, and most people seem to agree that quality-wise it's a big step down. It's still entertaining as hell, but as much quality this time. Both SM films far outgrossed any of the X-Men ones, those two are in the top 10 of all time and no X-Men flick is in the top 30 yet(X3 will make it though). Spider-Man 3 will shatter all those records when it comes out anyways. ... Either way though, the X-Men series is still a fantastic achievement. ![]() |

Well usually when a movies total reaches 400m+ theres nowhere else to go except down for the next movie. Making 370m is more impressive then making 215m no matter increase or decrease. Now X3 will make 250m+, thats great, but the next Spidey film will make another 370m+. Whats the more impressive franchise? One that hits 350m+ for all three movies or one that gets anywhere from 150m-250m? |

Yet the movie still has more As then any other grade in the forum. Although Critical Response is one to look at they are also close on Rotten Tomatoes, the 3rd Spiderman not withstanding. Its much better to check IMDB, since all have over 50,000 votes. Xmen and Spiderman both have a 7.3 Spidey 2 has a 7.8 and X2 has a 7.9 X3 has a 7.5 right now. |

Unless Spider-Man III sucks, it will end up as my favorite. |

If Spidey 3 ends up as good as part 2 then it will be the best superhero trilogy. Also, the x-men films have not done anywhere near as much $$$ as the spidey films, and spiderman is the only superhero films to date that is a huge success internationally. |

Money, I agree there Spiderman is untouchable, but even so, I still have no doubt that Spidey 3 will also decrease over the 2nd. Quality, is really a matter of opinion, depends on the viewer. I found Spidey 2 to be almost as unbearable as Batman and Robin. The funny thing is that I liked it the first time I saw it, but its one of the worst films to rewatch, there is no action at all. The story is cheesy as hell the villains are no where near as interesting as other superhero films. And the more I look at it, His grandmother is one of the worst characters ever portrayed. The only thing they really did well in my opinion was Tobey. Probably the best casting since Reeves as Superman. He makes the films fun to watch. I hope Spidey 3 is great though. |

I haven't been impressed with either of the first two X-Men movies and I'm sure the third one won't knock me off my feet either. |

The first two X-men movies are very good and infinitely better than the deathly boring/coma inducing Spiderman movies. The third is a disappointment IMHO. But most others seem to like the third one also. Further, the two sequels have gotten bigger than their predecessors indicating good audience growth. I would have to agree that the X-Men franchise is the leader at this point. Though X3 is disappointing, it is no Batman Forever/&Robin/Superman III/IV. The new Batman series could be the best if the quality of BB continues with the next one. |

No. Batman is. Despite the crappyness of the last one, when it works, it REALLY works. Batman - A Batman Returns - A- Batman Forever - B Batman & Robin - C Batman Begins - A |

You can't necessarily say that since we haven't seen even a teaser for SPIDERMAN III.. As fans, we've been extremely lucky to have Sam Raimi still Directing the SPIDERMAN movie's and hasn't turned into a flamewar over another Director taking over like X-MEN caused, that is until the 4th SPIDERMAN film is released and whther Raimi will be involved with that or not... |

Spider-Man 1+2 = what, 200 mil OW? X-Men 1, 2 AND 3 = what? 230? How is that more impressive? If you're trying to use box office as points for X-Men, you lose sixteen ways and a day. And quality/general/critical reception, well, I dunno how you can say X-men is ahead in those games, either. So, yeahkay, Spidey >>>> the World. |

Spiderman 2 was the greatest comic book movie of all time. The rest get lost in the shuffle... but X-Men, Batman, and Superman are the only others who stand out. And of those here's how they rank: 2. Batman Begins 3. X-Men: United 4. Spiderman 5. Superman 2 6. Batman 7. Batman Returns 8. X-Men 9. Superman 10. Batman Forever 11. Batman and Robin Disagree... if you DARE |

It's my personal favorite (Spidey 2 was boring) but that's because the source material is more creative than the others. Spider-Man shares many plot points with Superman so it can hardly be called original while Batman has had too many bad installments to even be considered (Akiva Goldsman and Joel Schumacher are to blame). |

Thank you, so many people forget how much Spiderman has taken from other superhero films and just improved on. None of it is very original. The only thing that is, is the teenage love story that accounts for the higher grosses. Other than that, Spiderman is a well made rehash of better comic book movies. I dont even know what Raimi was thinking with the 2nd film, he is such a great director, but Spidey 2 is definitely his worst movie, theres three action scenes in its 2 1/2 hour long running time filled with a lot of comedy and drama that was mostly the same from the first film. Mary Jane running at the end was definitely the worst scene of the year. I think Spidey 3 will be great, because it looks as though the franchise will finally take a chance and do something interesting and edgy. Xmen definitely had the most interesting storyline and the most hidden themes of any superhero series. though the third didnt capture it to its best potential, it was still quite engaging. And please stop using grosses. Since when do high grosses mean its the best. Both Series are big successes. Xmen cost 75 million where as Spiderman cost 125, the 2nd Xmen cost 110, where as the 2nd Spiderman was 200 million. I said as far as money goes, Spiderman is easily on top, but that is only 1 out of about 10 factors that it has. |
