I'm sure you horror fans have seen this already, but I just noticed that the Omen remake is being released on 06/06/06.

That's absolutely great! Some marketing genius gets credit for that.

And then he'll burn in Hell for all eternity.

Um, considering they base their entire marketing around it, they will notice.

Horror films released in summer usually won't be seen by anybody. it's just so they can release their DVD over Halloween.

I have a feeling, this one WILL be seen.

I heard people in school talking about this one just the other day, and how it's being released on June 6, 2006. It really is a brilliant marketing strategy.

The 6/6/06 strategy should work but Fox shouldn't get much credit for it. It really is kind of a no-brainer.

Not necessarily...

The Others
The Village
Nightmare on Elm Street 4
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th: 3D
Freddy vs Jason
Jaws
Jaws 2
The Haunting
Alien vs. Predator
Alien
Aliens
The Omen (76)
Predator
Gremlins
Psycho 2
Poltergeist
Dressed to Kill
The Shining
etc.,

As you can see, many of the "known horror or hybrid horror franchises" kicked off in the summer with their first films.

All can be related to horror (whichever sub-genre they fall into) in some way and all did very well for themselves at their times of Summer releases. Take into consideration inflation and they did even better. Especially the older ones pre-1990.

Granted, I don't believe "The Omen Remake" will perform as well as some of the aformentioned films. But, the summer is certainly not a dumping ground if the marketing is done properly.

I really don't know what I think about The Omen Remake. It's too early to tell. Have to see how the marketing is done first. But, the gimmick is impressive so far.

The main thing bothering me about the Omen remake so far is the kid. He looks a little too theatrically evil, in that annoying modern-trend of broody, pale spooky infants in horror films kind of way. In short, he looks like David Dorfman in The Ring.

Part of what spooked me about the original Omen was how normal the kid looked. Well, that and the kickass beheading scene.

It's Clever Marketing, but unforunately, that's where it stops.. I still think the original OMEN is a film that holds up quite well and the thought of going from Gregory Peck and Lee Remick to a younger cast is laughable..

I beg to differ on that case. I think it needs to be remade. Only bits of it were "scary" and the actual story had a lot of potential. If they can Texas Chainsaw Masacre or Hills Have Eyes this movie then I think it will turn out much better.

What was so scary about TCM remake? The original Omen is a great movie, scary or not. Im glad that you think a shoddy remake has a chance to execute the story better, fat chance. Least it has a nice cast though.

The TCM remake was not scary, it was disturbing, just like the original.
