The Online Film Critics list of the Top 100 Most Overlooked Films of the 90's...

There's definitely many I would agree with (eg: The Limey, Titus, Girl on the Bridge...), some I would not (eg: Mystery Men, Babe: Pig in the City, Sneakers...), and a few that I wouldn't consider overlooked at all (eg: The People vs. Larry Flynt...)

All-in-all though, an interesting list, and considering the fact that I have only seen exactly 50 of the 100 - it promises some entertaining movies for me to see down the road...

Pretty good list. some great films mentioned there like Pump Up The Volume, A Bronx Tale, LA Story and One false Move. Dead Again was also mentioned and it is good to see someone mention these films.

I didn't recognize most of them, but I definitely agree with Babe: Pig in the City. I want to rent Mysery Men, quite a cast it's got.

A great film by Bill Duke is mentioned as well. Deep Cover is one film that no one saw that starred Jeff Goldblum and Laurence Fishburne. A great addition to the list.

Great to see The Hudsucker Proxy (awesome), Flirting With Disaster (great), Cannibal! The Musical (awesomely great), The Girl On The Bridge (greatly awesome), Beautiful Girls (fandabidozy), Jesus's Son (fandabidoozy) and The Ref (the second best Denis Leary film) on there. I wouldn't call some of the films overlooked, per sé, but still, there's not a bad film on there as far as I can see.

But most of all, it's fantastic they've given some well deserved props to Joe Versus The Volcano! Now if only they'd stuck The Bonfire Of The Vanities in there...

Yes, Beautiful Girls is Michael Rappaport's best role. Love Dillon and Portman in that flick as well.

"Who the fuck is he? He cuts meat for a living."
"You plow snow. What's the difference!"

Love that film

I haven't even taken a look at the list, but if it does indeed include both Babe:PITC and Sneakers, then it is a work of love and genius. Two briliant, underrated movies.

Any list that includes both Heavenly Creatures and Alfonso Cuaron's Little Princess is genius in my book.

Wow. Jacoc's Ladder, Cemetery Man, Hudsucker Proxy, Miller's Crossing, Very Bad Things, Ravenous, Dead Alive, Titus, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me...

That could pass for my top ten of all time. This list is bloody amazing.

I'd say the list has quite a few stinkers, but some very very astute choices of some great films. But where the hell is Tin Cup? No overlooked list of the 90s is complete without it!

Some of the excellent choices include:
Miller's Crossing
The Hudsucker Proxy
Babe: Pig in the City
Bound
Fearless
Searching for Bobby Fischer
Sneakers
Zero Effect
A Little Princess
The Ref
Matinee
The Ice Storm
Flirting With Disaster
Bottle Rocket
Ravenous
Topsy-Turvy
Glengarry Glen Ross

But as I said, there's some major stinkers there, including Great Expectations (best score I've ever heard in a horrible movie, however), Chaplin, Very Bad Things, That Thing You Do! and two films I absolutely loathed that apparently have fans in this very thread, The Limey and Cemetery Man.

Hmm...I think I was a bit harsh in labelling That Thing You Do! as a stinker. It's not so bad.

A lot of these have long been on my want-to-see-eventually list: Girl on the Bridge, In the Company of Men, Babe: Pig in the City, Miller's Crossing, Defending Your Life, The Limey, The Red Violin, Waiting for Guffman, The Hudsucker Proxy, Raise the Red Lantern...

Topsy-Turvy was on HBO last night. I almost watched it.

The Straight Story is one of my favorite films, and it did receive a little attention, but not a lot. Top of the list for me.

I think Great Expectations actually has moments of brilliance.

I freaking love Beloved. One of my favorite films that I would admit has some extreme flaws.

Alfonso Cuaron's A Little Princess, one of the most charming movies I've ever seen.

I've seen....
The Sweet Hereafter
Before Sunrise (yay!!)
October Sky
Fast, Chaep, and Out of Control (recently in my Sociology class!!!)

Babe: Pig in the City (but I don't remember it)

Atop my list for can't-wait-to-finally-see-them are
Safe
Heavenly Creatures

I've heard probably about 10-15 of the other titles and the rest, have no clue!

I have some catching up to do!

Aesthetic brilliance, yes, but it's a complete fuckup of Dickens' novel. I hate it. (And why the hell did 'Pip' become 'Finn' and 'Miss Havisham' become 'Miss Dimmesdale?' That really got on my nerves.

Heh, Dick. Wouldn't expect them to put it up there.

Agree with:
The Hudsucker Proxy (A)
Searching for Bobby Fischer (A-)
Sneakers (A)
Breakdown (A-)
Bringing Out the Dead (B+)
My Neighbor Totoro (A-)
The Ice Storm (B+)
Flirting with Disaster (A-)
Great Expectations (A)
The People vs. Larry Flynt (B+)

Saw Heavenly Creatures last night and didn't like the movie after the first half, so definitely disagree with its top five placement.

I'm glad quick change is up there, a lot were big independant films if I remember correctly, and many are cult films, which I think get enough recognition after a while.

I would have loved if these two were on there

I think Miller's Crossing is the definition of overlooked masterpiece.

Now that I think of it though, Heat (Michael Mann, 1995) deserves to top the list. I mean c'mon, no Oscar nominations?

I think Great Expectations is BRILLIANT.

As is Alfonso Cuaron, now that I think about it.
