Post Universal Studios have the worst marketing team in hollywood

It’s the publicity department stupid!

Universal has one of the worst marketing and publicity departments in the entire industry quickly followed by The Weinstein’s but lets talk about Universal today.

So while I am sure that the movie has made its money back ahead of time due to foreign sales, the studio needs to make a lot of money in order to make up for the rest of the flops of the last couple of years and the ongoing development of their long “to do” list.

With the exception of Knocked Up, this studio has been hoping for a large blockbuster ever since…? Hell, I don’t remember the last commercially successful film that this studio has had.

Not that they haven’t had good films, Children of Men, Slither, Serenity and Smokin’ Aces are some of my personal favorite films of the last couple of years and it’s quite obvious that the studio no longer knows how to promote “genre” films.

It’s sad actually that this studio was the one that “Monsters Built” back in the day, but in the last decade has delivered some of the worst pictures and mishandled its good ones but all to the same result, Universal is the laughing stock of Hollywood.

The next 12 to 18 months are going to be a challenge for the troubled studio, they have a few large “genre” films in the pipeline including Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Wanted, Mummy 3, The Birds, The Wolf Man and some how convinced Marvel to let them distribute The Incredible Hulk after their horrible handling of the first film. I am sure blackmail was involved there somewhere.

Unless there is a major shake up in the marketing and publicity department all those films are doomed just like Slither, Serenity, Smokin’ Aces and Children of Men.

Advice to our friends who are producing Hellboy 2 and the Incredible Hulk with Universal, Mike Richardson, Lawrence Gordon, Señor Guillermo del Toro, Kevin Feige and Avi Arad, please take control of the marketing and publicity of these film as soon as possible before all your work and efforts go down the drain and in the case of Marvel, your money. I don’t expect you to take my word for it, simply look at their track record, it speaks for itself.

Comic Con is only a few short weeks away and it’s going to be the testing grounds for Universal. Will they get it? Will they reach out to fans? Will they treat “genre films” with respect?

I hope so but I sure wouldn’t bet on it.

My opinion

I totally agree with them.

And i feel bad for HULK 2 which might actually be a good awesome hulk movie everyone wants but flops or dissapoints because of universal marketing campaign.

Hellboy 2 also would suffer big time since the first hellboy was a dissapointment with sony's marketing.

I am hoping Universal marketing team gets their shit together and come up with proper strategies to market their films especially HULK 2 and Hellboy 2 otherwise all the hard work of marvel to revive hulk franchise and guilermo del toros dream of turning hellboy into a trilogy will get squashed and will be extremely dissapointing.
