I'd still like to go at some point, too. Obviously back of the line, but what is the line?

Obviously we haven't been following that. But either kypade, Lecter, or zennier is up next.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
Alright, it's top ten time. Some of you will probably be pissed at at least two of the films in my top ten, but what the hell, it's my list. Some things to note:
- there are 10 different directors (or directing teams) present. 6 of them had films earlier in my list - the difference between the oldest film and the newest film is 38 years - there are two years each with two films represented - the genre of note is sci-fi (as expected) - all of these films are dark, dark, dark, some much moreso than others

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
10. TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY (James Cameron, 1991)"I know now why you cry. But it's something I can never do."The best sequel ever made. Fantastic action, ground-breaking effects, but, most importantly, a killer story. It doesn't just re-tell the original, it furthers it. The family dynamic between the main trio feels real and makes for a genuinely heart-wrenching finale. I can watch this film over and over again, and it's not because of the action or the effects, it's because of the character relationships. A blockbuster with heart.

Wow, the board's really fucking me over. It took me like twenty minutes to do that. I'll try to continue.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
9. TWELVE MONKEYS (Terry Gilliam, 1995)"I'm insane, and you're my insanity."A wild and bizarre look at the apocalypse, time travel, madness, and everything in between. Brad Pitt's frantic, crazed performance garnered an Oscar nom and certainly deserved it; in a film of utter strangeness, he manages to stand out. Bruce Willis delivers one of his best performances playing against type, which only adds to the wildness. The brilliant and exciting music is one of the best modern themes and Gilliam's visual flair is on full display. Science fiction with an edge of insanity.

8. L.A. CONFIDENTIAL (Curtis Hanson, 1997)"Some men get the world. Others get ex-hookers and a trip to Arizona."A terrific modern noir. All three leads are so excellent and noteworthy in their performances that it's a grand shame that all three were overlooked at the Oscars. As good as Kim Basinger was in her winning role, the main three were even better. The story is complex, involving, and interesting, and I never grow tired of watching the mystery be solved. The direction and cinematography is classically beautiful and the film never gets boring. Simply a modern masterpiece.

Hmm, I've wanted to since I first saw 12 Monkeys, I've just never got around to it (or seen it available anywhere). It's on my list for sure, though.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
7. THE MATRIX (The Wachowski Bros., 1999)"Throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony."Yep, an achingly obvious addition to my list. A brilliantly original idea blended with ground-breaking action and effects. The sequels are shit, but so few of them aren't nowadays. The noirish stylings of the first third, combined with the post-apocalypse nightmare imagery of the second third, put together with the shiny action flick of the last third; it makes a truly awesome final product. Another one that used to be #1 on my list; it's slipped a bit, but not that much.

Yeah, do. You can find it online at google video and such...it's definitely worth seeking out. It would probably be on my own top 100. I've only seen some of 12 Monkeys, and a tv cut at that. : (

6. THE THING (John Carpenter, 1982)"I know you gentlemen have been through a lot, but when you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS FUCKING COUCH!"The best horror. A lean and taut story, with the minimum of plot and characters, yet it still leaves itself open to ambiguity and interpretation. Even Carpenter has admitted that he doesn't know who becomes the Thing at what time. The cast of lesser-known actors, aside from Kurt Russell, is still solid, and the interactions between them are great. But, most of all, the makeup effects are completely and utterly out of this world. Possibly the best of their kind. Both the blood test and the resuscitation scenes are classics of the genre. The original is great (probably the best alien film of the 50s), but this is better.
