Now that's a good movie. Easily one of my favorite killer croc films and all I could think of while watching this new Rogue is how much I wish I was watching the one from 2007. They just don't make movies like that anymore.

Haha. Crawl wasn't great in its settings imo. Too convenient with those pipes and stuffs. It was a great movie that makes brilliant use of its settings. But Rogue 2007 was a much better crocodile movie overall.

For me yes I'm using torrents because most movies don't even come out here too buy out rent.

Another case of the first 15 minutes establishing mysterious happenings only for the next 75 minutes to spin wheels before a predictably forgettable send off. This largely two-character piece needs our main pair to nail the tone, dialogue, and chemistry for any chance to succeed and unfortunately I don’t think that’s the case–especially in regards to chemistry.

I remember being disappointed by Rogue 07. I believe I even rated Primeval (which is also not great) above it for the year.

I don't consider Primeval a good movie at all, but I do like the brutal and sometimes gory action sequences in it. The CGI on Gustave wasn't that great either, but you do see plenty of him, so I can understand how some might prefer it over Rogue which is definitely more of a slowburn, but I love the Jaws approach and IMO there was enough action in the finale.

Yeah, while stupid with bad effects, the scene where the crocodile is charging at Orlando Jones on land has stuck with me. Can’t say the same about anything in Rogue.

The Prey

It all feels like the end result of asking a teenager off their ADHD meds to put a movie of their choice together however they think works best. Personally, I need a little more than nonstop immature stupidity and moronic hijinks (something like Tucker and Dale vs Evil is an example of what I’d consider a successful dumb fun horror movie).

I laughed out loud at a few parts of Dead I actually still remember and had a good time from beginning to end with what felt like the extended pilot episode for an ongoing sitcom/drama series of ghostly shenanigans (meant mostly a compliment).

Rent-A-Pal

This psychological thriller with a creepy, well executed premise is anchored by a solid (maybe even great) lead performance from Brian Landis Folkins. If that’s not enough there’s also a lived-in early ’90s setting you can almost feel, a small supporting cast free of weak links or pointless antagonists, and the occasional laugh–though make no mistake, it can be perturbing at times.

Alone

A slow burn start of building tension puts Jules Willcox’s Jessica in several scenarios that may very well get the hairs on the back of your neck standing and inspire the loudmouth theater attendee in all of us to yell things at the screen. The direction, score, and technical aspects all effectively serve the story while providing a setting with lots to look at and several shots I’d say were lovely (an overhead of a river jumps to mind). If you’re at all a fan of creepy, tense thrillers or survival stories that evoke a certain “what would I do?” element of playing along I think this would be a good and suspenseful time.

The Nest

This is a superbly performed & quietly unsettling family drama. Carrie Coon and Jude Law expertly lead a solid supporting cast free of weak links in this tale of an apparently affluent ‘80s family with a few expanding cracks in their foundation. If you go into this expecting traditional frights of thrills of any kind you’ll probably be alternatively bored and disappointed, so don’t do that. This one’s more about the horrors of a seemingly happy and well-off family slowly deteriorating under the weight of expectation.

The Honeymoon Phase

Do you happen to recall an episode of the TV show “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” starring the Mowry twins (of Sister, Sister sitcom fame)? Explaining why I was reminded of it would definitely give away some of The Honeymoon Phase’s story beats and even if you simply know what I’m referring to you already get what to expect from this movie so I apologize to all three other people who know what I’m talking about. Anyway, I’m sure the setup was hoary by the time I saw it on NickTV in the late ‘90s so to get pretty much a repeat in 2020 only with sex, violence, and four times as long doesn’t exactly rock my socks off.

These 20 pound creatures with orange teeth and webbed feet, also known as “nutria” or “coypu,” were originally imported to Louisiana long ago for their fur but have since become a kind of ecological disaster.

How to Deter a Robber

This character-focused tale of how a few family members deal with a series of robberies in their area never forgets to have a good time and doesn’t overstay its welcome. It’s clear from the start this has more interest in giving the cast entertaining characters to bring alive while mildly sending up various cliches than going through the motions of a home invasion movie.
