 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
I know it's influential and iconic but Raiders is overrated as hell. Sorry not sorry. It's one of those films that are only great when viewed in context (as an important template that was revolutionary 'at the time').

I watched The Last Crusade last month and was slightly aghast (that used to be my favorite). My 5 Favorite Spielbergs: 1. Jurassic Park 2. Minority Report 3. Hook 4. A.I. Artificial Intelligence 5. Close Encounters of the Third Kind I spazzed when I was voting in the poll and selected Munich instead of Hook. (Munich was good but, like many of his "more serious" movies, was worth a single viewing and no more)

It’s still relevant.

 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
Yeah, I would argue Raiders is one of the best examples of a movie that does not show its age in blockbuster history. I also watched it for the first time well over a decade after its first release

Last Crusade is my favourite of the Indy films also. By a fair bit too.

 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
Last Crusade is just so cheesy at times. Raiders is just badass from start to finish with some light hearted romp in Cairo

With a big tie for the tenth spot the nine to Advance are:
Jaws Raiders of the Lost Ark ET The Last Crusade Jurassic Park Schindler’s List Saving Private Ryan Minority Report Catch Me If You Can
Those tied for tenth will advance to the Others poll

 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
1. I'll be quirky and unique because everyone knows this film is a horribly representation of him 2. The clear #1 but I can't call it the best because then I'd be a sell out. 3. A mid tier and underrated great film, that no one would ever pick as a top 5 film 4. See #3 but even more irrelevant. 5. I had to pick a film that everyone loves and it's justifiable at #5, and no one too would pick it. You're Welcome. Still not a bad film on there. Any Director would be happy to have those five films. But Spielberg?

 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
Or maybe David chose them because they're simply his Top 5 favorites? I don't think he's attempting to be "different than everybody else". Besides, three of his five picks were among the Top 9 that KJ just voted on...

I love it when people have a go at other member's tastes, but David is the least pretentious person on the forum. If you're going to have a go at someone, choose i.hope or Libs.

 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
That's a great list from David. I don't understand how anyone could have a problem with it. A.I is one of Spielberg's best.

 Re: Top Five Spielberg Films
With Spielberg, I admit I am not over the moon for his most iconic films. Not as much as other people. Which is not to say I do not enjoy them (I do), but, truly, give me Minority Report—Tom Cruise; incredible futuristic world building; grim, intense, paranoid themes—over E.T. or Close Encounters or even Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I am also very fond of Spielberg's eclecticism and, frequently, darkness circa roughly 2000-2011. War of the Worlds is closer to my top five than E.T., too, though the false emotional note of the son being alive in Boston ever so slightly restrains it from perfection.
