Avatar is not getting great WOM only because of the visuals. Visuals are merely a compliment to the experience...all the people I've talked to said they loved it because of the characters and the story...Titanic was also very derivative, cliche and predictable...yet it's love story captivated zillions around the world. They loved it because of Jack and Rose, and yes the ship sinking was cool but it wasn't the only reason. Same here, it's Jake and Neytiri, and also the impressive motion capture and Pandora.

And holy shit Robin Hood cost 200m?! Bomb of the year, definetely.

Universal will go bankrupt with budgets like this.
Green Zone cost 150m.

But I hate the existence of 3D because whether we like it or not the filmmaker will take into account 3D whilst shooting which they never have had to do before. Once this is done, cheap effects will be thrown in and directing/cinematography changes because of how 3D needs to be given precedence for audience thrills.

Cameron may be different but a lot of movies will suffer. Clash of the Titans anyone? Awful decision.
Just when the blockbuster has started to build up more credibility again it's going to be ripped back down.
Thanks to 3D and Jim. It's just that Hollywood is as greedy as any company and the bottom line is more important than quality.

Fuck it.

Yes, and pop-up books are the quintessential progression in the book-reading experience.

Sorry, but that's idiotic.

Films are a fundamentally visual medium, whereas literature is text resulting in induced imagination. Being that films are mainly visual there is relevance given to the progress of the visual experience. Even though some books may include pictures to aid interpretation, there is absolutely no parallel between the visual quality of books and the visual quality of films.

By the nature of one medium being visual, and the other being text-based, there is actually an inverted relationship. In terms of relevance to the audience's experience, the only thing that compares to pictures in books, is text in movies. It's simply an aid to interpretation, and therefore picture pop-ups cannot be used as a parallel to 3D cinema.

I stand by my statement, son.
