Films are a fundamentally
visual medium, whereas literature is text resulting in induced imagination. Being that films are mainly visual there is relevance given to the progress of the visual experience. Even though some books may include pictures to aid interpretation, there is absolutely no parallel between the visual quality of books and the visual quality of films.
By the nature of one medium being visual, and the other being text-based, there is actually an inverted relationship. In terms of relevance to the audience's experience, the only thing that compares to pictures in books, is text in movies. It's simply an
aid to interpretation, and therefore picture pop-ups cannot be used as a parallel to 3D cinema.
