IMDb has removed the ability to sort User Reviews
IMDb removed the ability to sort User Reviews. Previously, there was an option to choose sorting by chronological, helpfulness, least poitive, and most positive. Now all that remains is "Ordered By Helpfulness".

Why did they do that? Didn't hurt to leave the other sorting options there?
I didn't like it when they chopped the message boards.

Re: IMDb has removed the ability to sort User Reviews
They've been deleting several of the most popular and useful features (message boards, sorting user reviews, reference view of individual pages) and will continue to keep doing so. When asked about the reasoning behind these changes, the usual replies are "to enhance/improve the user experience" or "because it's technically impossible to keep these features", i.e. a lot of nonsense.
By now, imdb has gone from a user-generated database with constant interaction to a dead place that looks and feels like an advertising space for Amazon. Besides being a lot more cluttered, it hardly offers anything that you can't find on wikipedia or even when simply googling for a movie and glimpsing at the brief overview they provide.

IMDB should be used only one way. And that's when you say" I don't use IMDB anymore"

I suppose they closed the message boards to shut down any negative reactions to early screenings or any "inside" info studios don't want publicized as well as some fake rumors and reviews. They are helping studios to manage the narrative.

People's exchange of knowledge and opinions made them more interesting than the reviews. I am sad they are gone for good.
