Re: Planned sequels that were cancelled?
Veering a bit off-topic, but probably into a territory that TDS is familiar with...writing an article on F13 recently I noticed that right now is the longest period of time in which neither Michael nor Jason nor Freddy were on screen. It seems like the studios have no fucking clue what to do with these franchises.

Yeah, it's ridiculous. They genuinely don't know what to do. The Nick Antosca draft of FRIDAY THE 13TH they just tossed was great, and HALLOWEEN RETURNS by Dunstan/Melton was okay. They've made movies with far worse scripts.

Austin Powers 4. And shut up, I know it was mentioned. The first three are my go-to movies when I want to just laugh and enjoy myself. Love them immensely. But I also know a new movie will suck. Just too far removed from Mike Myers' best days.
And even though I'm one of the few who kind of liked it, I imagine The Love Guru killed Austin Powers 4 and Mike Myers in general. The character seems like something Mike had imagined for the Austin Powers universe but decided foolishly to give him his own movie.

It can't be that hard to make a serviceable F13 movie. The franchise has never been an example of originality, clever storytelling or interesting plots.

Re: Planned sequels that were cancelled?
Paramount knows the next film is the 13th, so they have some concept that it should be "special." But they have no idea what special actually means. So they keep going around and around in circles on it.

Check out this Angry Video Game Nerd vid and fast forward to 8:39. A Grand Prize in a Nintendo Power magazine contest was to be an extra in "The Mask II" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eegQI9WM6mk

Re: Planned sequels that were cancelled?
I think the biggest problem is that Halloween and Nightmare have limitations. Halloween is always about the family (Thanks to Carpenter) and the studio will never let that go and Nightmare really only worked because of England and Craven.
F13 will always worked, and it's the only remake that you can say was in the better of the series. Both Halloween and Nightmares reboots are easily on the really bad side of the series.
Obviously they will want another Halloween by 2018 for the 40th Anniversary. It's always been the higher quality series. I say let go of the family and try something different. I could see an obsessed cop film where the suspect is Michael Myers.
F13 will be fine, never the (Sequel a year) series anymore, but if marketed well it'll still be a cash cow.

Re: Planned sequels that were cancelled?
Then there were the fantasy series that stopped at one and left the plot hanging: Golden Compass and Series of Unfortunate Events
