Wet Hot American Summer & The Camp Movies!
Bwahahaha! I just had a Wet Hot American Summer moment. It was a bit of stream of consciousness, but it lead to my remembering the councilors "day-off" scene. Y'all know which scene I'm talking about? It starts off alright, which is why its so funny. Its their day off, and they leave the kids at camp and go into "town" where they grab a whole bunch of beer. You think to yourself...ok, I might do that if it was my day off. But then you see them tossing a whole bunch of really strong liquer into the car and you say to yourself, well, ok, I guess they're stressed, and this is a commedy, I get it, they're gonna party. But then they start sucking down cigarettes and then pot, and finally they rent a room and their are scenes of them totally drugged out on really hard substances and its soooo hilarious seeing Janeane Garofalo totally passing out in the arms of some teenage kids (supposedly). Oh I'm thinking about it now and its much funnier in my mind than it probably even was on screen.
C'mon, with a tagline *High Times. Hard Bodies. Soft Rock.* when dealing with a summercamp. This can't be bad...and it wasn't. It was actually good old fashion fun. Who else has seen it? Wasn't it good? With the fun science kids that David Hyde Pierce teaches, and the sports bit where the kids just think a final game is silly and want to call it off. And of course Molly Shannon's breakdown in the arts and crafts section and the little kid who'se parents are therapists that gives her a massage.
Teehee. So yeah, the Canadians should know this movie, it was done by that comic group of which I'd never heard of until this movie came out. I think its the people that did "Brain Candy" but can't be sure. It might be a idfferent comedy troupe altogether and I'm just getting confused cause I'm too busy giggling to myself.
So I haven't seen any other summer camp movies, please feel free to recommend, and I mean the comedy ones, not the horror ones (j/k) you can recommend those too, but I probably won't get around to seeing Sleepaway Camp anytime soon.
Its too bad they don't do more of these, especially in the summer. They're good fun.

Ah, Sleepaway Camp. Has there even a more bizzare film? From the creepy "aunt" who looks like a man to the heroine of the movie turning out to be a naked boy shrieking wildly at the end of the movie?
Ick.
